Anderson Air

Post by Loading... »

Does anybody have any current info on Anderson Air.
I’m looking for info on the compensation, and schedule mostly.
Also if you have any info on job security that would be great, like if the owner sells a plane are they pretty good at moving you onto a different type?
I see they have lots of ads out right now and just wondering a little more about them.
Thanks so much

Yeah it seems really good. Compensation depends on experience, what you can negotiate, and what type of plane you’re going on. First year FO will probably be around 100K. Schedule is 24/7 reserve, if you don’t get called it’s a day off. On average they work about 12-14 days per month. Obviously because the layovers are long your only flying maybe 8 of those. Destinations are all over and totally depend on equipment. Pension is RRSP match. Vacation starts at 2 or 3 weeks I think and you just take it when the other pilot isn’t taking it. So you can like alternate who gets Christmas vacation or whatever. 3 pilots per plane. If the owner sells a plane they will move you to another opening. It might not be what you want but I heard they are pretty good at not laying people off. Seems like a really solid gig, you’ll fly 300ish hours per year.

Id be surprised anyone would consider 24/7 on call with no scheduled days off a really solid gig…

I dont believe that's even legal these days. You cant call it a 'day off' retroactively, it's only a day off if you know in advance.

It’s not, the old guard is having a hard time accepting this.

Well that’s what Air Canada does. If you don’t get called on reserve that’s considered a day off and replaces one of your “grey” days off.
And it’s even worse because that’s 2 hour call out vs 24

There is no such thing as "grey" days at AC. Yes it is a 2 hour call out while you have a reserve day. Our days when we are on call is a 14 hour RAP (Reserve Availability Period). If you dont get called within your RAP it does not count as a day off. It is still a day worked even if you don't get the phone call.
We get Guaranteed Days Off(GDO) where you are completely free from duty and you can leave your phone off.
Anyways, just wanted to clarify.

If they actually have 3 pilots per airplane, there should be a schedule that avoids the old ways of 'retro' days off.

And stop trying to compare how Air Canada does it. It's apples and oranges.

Regarding this, I believe AC used to have “grey days” but how you describe them is false, they were days that could be used as a work day, then they would have to give you another day off to replace them.
An example would be, you have two days of reserve and two grey days, a four day pairing came up, they could assign it and give you two days off somewhere else in the month.
The if you didn’t get called and that was a day off, never that I’m aware of but certainly prevalent at charter operations!

I don’t think 3 pilots is enough for that. My understanding is that the 3rd pilot will be a pilot in the company that is trained on multiple types and just covers if you book off or if you have vacation. But as far as scheduling it’s just 2 pilots.

No apples and oranges about it.

If you can’t plan to day drink… it’s not a day off. End of story.

Re-read what you wrote and explain how that makes any sense. It’s 3 pilots but it isn’t? Either there are 3 pilots assigned per plane or it’s only 2 pilots with contract/management pilot coverage for days off. Both allow time off in advance to be booked. Not at all like having only 2 pilots available with time off only when the plane is down for maintenance.

The apples-and-oranges was about the scheduling rules, not the day-off-or-not debate. Airline scheduling schemes don't really need to be used in corporate aviation as it doesn't need to be so complicated. Having 3 pilots per plane gives you a 2-to-1 on-to-off ratio (for example, 10 days on/5 days off).
Day drinking plans are not only about days off in corporate aviation; call-out time factors in to it too (12+ hours notice).

24 hour callout time makes it rather different. In that case, every day is a 'day off', right up until you get the call that says 'tomorrow isn't'.
