New graduate apprentice struggling

Hello everyone, to give some background I am graduating this month from a 2 year college course on aircraft maintenance with transport Canada accreditation. I’ve been struggling to get any replies from employers or much of anything and everyone I talk to isn’t hiring apprentices with no experience outside of school I am open to work on quite literally anything I just want to get my foot in the door and I am very eager and excited to learn. Any advice or guidance would be very appreciated.

Same reply i sent out many times .. Resume mass-mailings dont work.
Start at the first business on the hangar line & work your way down to the last building.
Note who the chief engineer & the name of the office receptionist. In a couple of weeks - repeat. One day you will encounter a situation where they require a worker & they will be reminded that you are available & eager.

as an additional afterthougth ... note that the apprentice they intend to hire will be performing tasks that either the chief engineer or delegated licensed mechanic will have to sign (take responsibility) for. Technically .. they will have inspected the job - but in some situations they will not have time. So they have to rely on the integrity of the apprentice to have competently completed the task. A single resume page with references from McDonalds or Burger King - will not make them feel any better - nor will a 15 minute interview with HR asking introductory questions. So showing up at the shop informally chatting with the licensed mechanic; asking about the work; will show a degree of ambition and reliability. Just because u completed a Mech college program - this does not have the confirmation that the turnbuckle was correctly wirelocked & you double checked it & the complete cable run! An informal face to face meeting will go a long way showing interest in the profession. PS u require to be on good terms with secretary so u can get past the front desk into the hangar!!!

We put out an ad to take apprentices, get 100 resumes that are all pretty similar, worse when the cover letters are obviously generic and / or AI slop. What makes yours stand out?

Are you applying “en mass”, or are you tailoring your resume and cover letter, proving to an employer you at least know what they’re flying and fixing? Does your cover letter read like this post, only wanting a foot in the door and just excited or are you expressing in the application you are ready to seriously start a career? An AME job isn’t a foot in the door position, screw ups that we make can and will kill people. This is a job where you have to respect the work and what a maintenance release really means.

Are you only applying in the area you’re graduating or a hometown? If so, apply broader. There’s employers on the ads here looking for apprentices if you’re willing to go on an adventure and experience the north.
