Hello everyone,
I’m planning my Initial Class 1 medical in Canada. To ensure everything is streamlined and to arrive with a "clean" medical file, I’m considering doing a full eye exam, including Ishihara, at a private Optometrist a week before my CAME appointment.
My question is: In your experience, do CAMEs typically accept a fresh, signed report from an external eye specialist to fill out the MER, or is there a rigid requirement for the CAME to physically flip the plates in the room?
My goal is to arrive with all specialists' reports already in hand to minimize the chance of being deferred for further testing and to ensure the file is as complete as possible on the day of the exam.
If anyone has experience with this approach or can recommend CAMEs who value specialist reports, I’d appreciate the insight.
thanks !

Not worth it.
Ultimately if there's some sort of issue likely TC will come back and ask for you to see an optometrist with specific requests. Then you'd get to jump through the hoops.
I don't see any value in trying to do the optometrist first.

The only reason to get a colourblindness test done ahead of time, is if you know you can't pass the standard Ishihara/plate test. Then you go and get a Farnsworth D-15 sorted out, and bring it along with you.
Your CAME would likely ask you why you bothered to get a test done that they can administer - especially when they'll just redo the test to show it was completed in office. Dot the T's and cross the I's as they say...

I'd recommend calling the CAME beforehand and asking about their policy. Bringing a recent optometrist report is helpful, but be prepared for the CAME to repeat the Ishihara test during the medical.
