As a former Sunwing pilot, once I started reading the story, I took a guess for myself if I would know who the pilot was. After a minute of thinking, the one and only name that came to mind was Darren's. Upon reading further and seeing his name, I said to myself "Yup, that tracks."
So for those defending his "legitimate" food order and trying to excuse away his racist remarks, he was a constant thorn in the side of Flight Ops and this was finally the straw that broke the camel's back. He knew exactly what he was saying and how he was saying it and this time he got called on it. He denied any wrongdoing and got to see firsthand the results of FAFO.
Doesn't matter, guy still shouldn't have been fired.

Now, we almost need to physically remove our testicles, watch what we say, walk on eggshells, be careful who we talk to about what. I do think, in the future, like Office Workspaces, Airline jobs will be dominated by Females.

I think that the jobs least at risk from AI are trades jobs, which are dominated by males. It may become more equally represented in the future by those willing to get dirty fingernails and rougher environments. Interesting.

I'm leaving this post up but wow that's particularly neolithic take on things. Smart people know to make their jokes appropriate for the audience receving them. And this has nothing to do with the actual post, which was clearly a racist dogwhistle attack on the support personnel.
Any assertions that DA was an unsafe pilot are untrue. He is a good pilot, and I know of at least 2 instances where he "didn't leave a crewmember behind".
As for what KP is saying, it's true. We don't see it because we are professionals separated from the rest of the world by a door, but the managerial takeover of the corporate world is already 40 years in. All in the name of "protecting the company". White collars walk on eggshells in offices, never sure who can hear them speak. Blue collars dreading "coming into the office" because of the risk of being cornered by office busybodies. A friend of mine with great factory productivity was fired because the office lady walked into him, right in front of the camera - he was promptly replaced by a TFW. The excuse had been created, he was expendable.
In a country where everyone is levered up to the eyeballs and riding the fine line above insolvency, there is a sense of dread in every workplace. Don't think it can't happen in aviation, it already is. Careful with your speech and what you post online when sitting in your backyard because you could be summoned into HR monday morning.
I’ve had the unfortunate experience flying with Darren on numerous occasions at Sunwing. He was by far the absolute worst Captain I have ever flown with in my career. His negativity and criticism knew no bounds. He was a mediocre pilot at best and always seemed to have a reason to complain. Whether it was the company or the union, there was nothing that made him happy. He was well known amongst the pilot group as “Angry Bird.”
He taught me exactly how not to operate as a Captain and for that, I am forever grateful. To suggest he was even half competent based on his complete lack of CRM soft skills is asisine. He was a disaster waiting to happen. Safety is built upon CRM skills and he had absolutely none.
Our industry is so much better off without him. This is the truth.

Jeez, relax.
From all accounts he was an ass who made an illegitimate order, and then kept up the charade.
You know who wouldn't have been fired? An ass who made a real meal request, even if it was unintentionally a slur. Or, a decent person who snapped and said something dumb, but then apologized the next day.
But if you're in neither category and you have a lengthy history, eventually you get canned.
