Was also wondering if it is just better to try and get in a Dash FO position to start. 2000 hrs and 800 multi turbine pic, wondering what the upgrade time on the Dash would be. Cheers!
As of me writing this reply the E2 First Officer position is on Porter Airlines careers page along with Dash 8.

I'm quite confident there will be a ground school every month for the next two years at least based on the amount of tails still to arrive. This is actually a slow year for deliveries and we're still doing a ground school every month.

Hello

Is Porter looking to hire E2 FOs for the remainder of the year and 2027? How much do FOs fly in a year? Are the newer FOs on reserve or can hold a block?

Thank you!

The latest from the company was no outside hiring for 2026 but I suspect that won't be (and probably already isn't) the case. I suspect there will be some outside hiring.

FOs flying 400-600 hours a year I believe. New hires can expect to be on reserve for a little while. I think 6-9 months now but I am happy to be corrected.

They still have an ad up for DEC Jet Captains, is that just filling a pool for the future?

Last year it was under 3 months. Who knows now… supposedly external hiring is set to resume for the E2 shortly but there’s probably quite the candidate pool now.

Wondering how reserve works at PD:
- if everyone regardless of seniority does a few reserve days reserve very month, or is it a full-month for the most junior
- if there is a minimum call-out time they have to give
Thanks

Once you can hold a line you don't do reserve unless you bid for it. The minimum call-out is two hours.

Full-month for the most junior.

Minimum call-out 2 hours.

Working rules for reserve aren't great atmo, lots of extensions, nothing is protected, you're essentially the company's slave during your RSV string. Hopefully we see some improvement on our first ever negotiated contract.

For line holders in general, how many days of work are being scheduled per month? Is there the option to drop or trade shifts ? Also is it easy to have a schedule where half of the month is scheduled work and the other half is off?

12 days off are guaranteed per month (well, per bidding period technically; sometimes they bleed over into another month by like a day to even out shorter vs longer months). Whether you'll get more depends on your seniority and how you bid. If you can hold all high-credit single days like YYZ-YVR-YYZ, you could work 10-12 days a month, but that's not the reality for most people.

Dropping isn't really a thing. In theory there is language for it (I think...) but almost no one tries to do it, and those who try almost never succeed. Trading is possible and sometimes done, but there really isn't a culture for it. I think that's due to the absolute shitty software that Porter uses: for the longest time the software was literally unable to process trades, so trading had to be done manually, and because of that there were restrictions on how many trades you could do per month, and you had to actually find a willing trade partner first and submit your request to crew scheduling with a certain amount of lead time... it was a nightmare. (I am not even sure if it's still like that or not, I've kinda given up on trading, and also my seniority lately has allowed me to hold what I really need to hold as far as days off etc.) So the default option for avoiding pairings you really hate is just booking off them.

If your seniority allows for it, you could try to build the half-and-half schedule you are describing, but it won't be exactly half-month-on, half-month-off. The work-heavy part of the month will have to have some days off because of CARS, so that leaves fewer days off for the lighter part of the month, and you're only guaranteed 12 to begin with.
