Problem is there's still the "who wouldn't want the honour of working for AC?" arrogance out there.

Add in a dash of the 30yo upgrading to captain and running his/her silly little podcast and/or mentorship buisness; while strutting around in our stupid train conductor hats thinking they're God for being an A220 captain.

Until the egos of being an all mighty AC pilots deflate, AC doesn't need to offer anything proper to retain or hire pilots.

WestJet had to do better when they had no shows at ground schools and a hemorrhage of pilots going to AC.

AC doesn't need to do anything to fill vacancies.

I truly don't mind that a newly minted Flair FO gets paid more now because it just raises the bar for all, even though it should have been us 2 years ago. AC negots start in Sept with a CA expiration of Sept 2027 so I'm sure there will be gains there and hopefully puts us at the top. This is pattern bargaining. We all win.
We should be concerned that a ULCC is setting the bar, not the flag carrier AC. As mentioned above, when has Spirit ever out paid Delta?
Never...Best is watching the yes voting MEC Reps whore out themselves on OT with ALPA days. My YUL Rep is killing it this month. He was a big yes man to the TA.

Such a good deal he needs to do OT on top of ALPA paid money.

Then in year three you made about $65 an hour in the position group until you could get on the bus for about $85 an hour, that topped out around $120...

2026 scale for new hires is $95 an hour. Year two is $103. Pretty easy to translate that into $100K for some. Year 3/4 FO scales need the most improvement depending on type IMO, but all of it is a far cry better from old 2 year flat pay or 4 year fixed rate when you plug it in your BOC calculator.
No one gives a shit about the glory days on the "9" or being an Oiler on a DC10. Time to move on.

I don't see Delta/United/American pilots trying to Make Aviation Great Again.

The industry has completely changed and junior pilot pay is pathetic. No excuses. We are 50% off what the Americans make. Percent of Captain is comical for a Legacy airline. The Junior pilots think this is a joke! We are pissed.

A ULCC has better starting pay!! Who thinks this is OK?
Work on your reading there fuçk-boy. I'm not talking about glory days on the -9 or oiling on the DC8... I wasn't here for any of that. But those are the guys that screwed it for everyone after, and only recently there has been gains to correct it. I'm only pointing that fact out. Those guys that screwed a generation are the guys taking the big buy outs right now as they go into the sunset at last, one last kick at the can sucking off the rest of the group...

But the more sheet stains like you bitch about how hard you think you have it, the more a lot of guys that went through it for the last 10-20 or so say fuçk it. I'm not saying it's right, but that's what the attitude brings... I know lots of junior guys that are only looking after themselves and planning on same next contract too... Take a look in the mirror.

I second. I am pissed too, little faith in AC Union reps and my peers share it. All gains seem to favor senior people who have the cost of living explosion issue well behind them. Hired about 4 years ago.

Why would AC pay better than an ULCC? Nobody wants to hang their hat there, especially with the risk of bankruptcy around the corner. Everybody wants to end up at AC, or a vast majority. AC has no legacy competitors like Delta or United has in the US. Are you seriously going to call WJ a competitor? Let's be real.

Like telecoms or supermarkets in Canada, AC does not need to compete since there are no competitors. They can afford to pick and choose with 2000+ hrs resume stacked on their desk and no shortage of new hires.

Get to work. It doesn't come easy. What are you doing these past 4 years? Your peers elected the reps... are you talking to them about your feelings?

4 years? So maybe you just clipped over to 5 year rates, depending on base could be a junior WB FO at about $200K/year... or maybe you're making $140K or 160K in a narrow body, semi-senior in the position, and your rate climbing a bunch every pay anniversary... what do you expect? Should you make $310 or 320K like a 15 or 20 year 320 Captain? Is that too much for that guy?

Fact is that "gains seem to favour the senior people" is ignorance. Gains were the highest year 3-4 FO and then 1-2 FO in the last deal... then in all FO seats NB, then WB, then NB CA, then WB CA, - except all 767 which took big gains coming off cargo scale.

It's not enough for any seat, but it's not eating the juniors and all gains directed senior like it once was around here. When the senior guys get rates you can't get? That's when all the benefits are going senior. The only ones eating you are the company minions looking out for themselves - manager pilots get bonuses to marginalize you, base managers, A11 yes men... they really got their psych eval dialed, I see so many yes men, company lanyard, marching like good smurfs, cheers Murray, yay Arielle...

Get behind your union, get involved, that's the only way to get more.

Largest dollar for dollar increase went to the senior folks.

Plus their ratification pay was TRIPLE over junior folks.

Imagine trying to argue the junior pilots got the most.

Are these MEC talking points? Who is writing this North Korea propaganda?

B777 Captains got a $90 per hour raise

New hires got 20 bucks.

4.5 times more dollars to the Senior Folks

Pay rate increases are done by percentage, not absolute numbers. Of course someone who's earning $300/hr is going to see a higher absolute increase than someone earning $80/hr.

The fact is, pilots joining this industry will earn, far, far more than the baby boomers (the generation before me). Pilots get hired at a major now with 2000-2500 hours. It hasn't always been like this...

Lol Bede...

Tell us you don't know shit without saying you don't know shit.

The root of the problem for us juniors is Percent of Captain Pay. PCP... YOU KNOW ME?!

This is why ALPA majors have fixed this.

Until you fix that, you will get boomer Captains getting 4 times the raise.

And if you think a 20 something year old pilot is going to have a career of a Boomer, I'd tune in on what is happening with AI and the middle class. Holy shit Bede you need to get to your fishing boat!

A few things here:

1) Does Delta have problems filling ground schools?

2) Are New Hires Union paying dues members? Shouldn't they be represented?

3) Is a 20 year + Captain going to leave? So why do they need to give him a $90 a hour raise? Literally more than 1st year pay.

1. No clue, but AC definitely does not have a problem. Everyone and their dog wants to come to AC, because, they are the monopoly. In the US, pilots can choose between Delta, United, American, Alaska. So they need to compete each other. AC doesn't need to compete shit. How many tails does AC has? How many does WJ has? And most importantly, how many WB? WJ is not even close to be a danger for AC in terms of filling ground schools.

2. ALPA can ask for x and y, but AC does not need to give it. ALPA folded in 2024 when it was THE BEST year for negotiations. 2027/2028 will not even be close. The state is now looking into making transportation sector unable to strike. AC is laughing.

3. Exactly, no captain is going to leave. So why do they even get any raises? Is 300k+, close to 400k with OT not enough? Meanwhile a new hire is not even breaking 6 digits. But they are going to get big raises because ALPA reps is heavy Captains. Of course they are going to fight for the biggest portion of the pie. FO's and new hires can go pound sand.

My favorite from this whole negotiating & implementation dumpster fire is the "get involved" part.

They are literally going with the same negotiating committee. Zero change.

While my yes voting YUL Captain Rep is the #1 OT hog for the entire base while getting ALPA days every month.

What a fuking joke this MEC is.

Bitch and whine all you want, it doesn't change that juniors didn't get sold out.

How much do you think a 4 year 320 FO should make relative a 20 year 320 CA?

Not a valid comparison.

The answer is 66.67% of the year 4 320 CA.

The lack of unity amongst you guys at AC is laughable. As someone who does work for a legacy down south, the sentiment is completely different.

The situation that senior guys at AC found themselves in during the 2000’s and 2010’s is very similar to what happened to guys in the states. Concessionary contracts, lack of career progression, horrible new-hire pay, and furloughs from the 2000’s and early 2010’s impacted current legacy captains all the same as what AC senior pilots had to go through.

For some reason, the “you should feel lucky, it was worse in my day” idea is something I’ve only seen in Canada. All of the senior ALPA leadership in the US tow generally in the same direction, pushing for fair wages regardless of your seniority number. I have yet to hear a single senior captain or training captain tell me I have it too good, or that I should feel grateful for abysmal raises. Until you guys ditch the boomer “uphill, into the wind, both ways” mentality, things won’t improve.

I bet you I didn't vote for the people that somehow got in charge again. And my year 3 bearly hit 110k, compared to the 330k of the person usually next to me, who's expecting unity.

How come you write such a response, do you not want to work with a pilot group that can feel they got the best for their group, not just a subset? Going to work is more than just making money.

The pay disparity is just wrong, even year 5 barely hits 55% of captain pay. It just doesn't make sense to me. Years 3-4 might have gotten the largest pay raise in %, but that argument doesn't hold if it's still only 30% of left seat pay.

We are all pilots sitting in the same boat, might as well fight for an altogether happy group that feels fairly treated. I don't feel people here, nor the union, acting like that.

My 2 cents, I have little control over the rest and not worth my time.

Cheers

You young whipper snappers have it so easy these days.

Back in my day, we had to fly sideways for years before they even trusted us with a control column. We were so poor it took us a whole 8 years to pay off our houses.

Augmentation? Please. We crossed the Atlantic with 2 pilots, a coffee thermos, and pure determination.

And we never complained. We were just grateful to have a job.

Also, a sincere thank you to ALPA for that $90/hour raise. My new boat is absolutely beautiful.

And to all those reps collecting overtime while telling us how hard everyone is working: thank you for leading by example. As it turns out, the secret to a pay raise was working more all along.

That's the comparison that's being made. 3 or 4 year guys complaining that more senior guys got too much compared to them.

So I'm trying to understand what they think it's fair and I'm hearing nothing to answer that. Pejoratives and willful ignorance.

It didn't get all the way there for sure. I voted against it and advocated for others to do so. But it passed and you have to move forward.

But now it's counter productive division, right on cue from what are probably half company agitators trying to stir the disunity pot...

Fact is everyone needed big raises. Junior got fixed rate 4 year cut in half and moved up substantially. Whole FO pay scales got increases. It didn't go far enough and happen all at once and now we need to get the rest. Better start supporting your team if you want to get it.

Cheers
I'm giving back what you put out and only calling it like I see it. And I don't disagree.

Year 3/4 reduced formula are still bullshit, I am saying that it needs to improve. I think it's horseshit that WB FOs are getting a higher % then NB FOs in those years too. Fact is it was so bad before the gains were so large and it's still not cot to enough.

That's the issue.

The issue isn't that CA pay is too high, it's that we need to bring up the deficient % in those early years further and get rid of the year 2 fixed rate. Then we need to all row on pushing the rates. I 100% support that in 2027.

There are a lot of new status reps, but if yours is failing and doing OT call them and tell them it's unacceptable. That's an embarrassment. Go to your LMMs and call it out. I don't think that's indicative of a lot of the hard working reps and volunteers I talk to. Wear your lanyard and pin. Fly the contract. Advocate for unity towards issues important to you, not disunity and tearing down other achievements.

paymydues wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2026 4:10 pm The lack of unity amongst you guys at AC is laughable.

And US majors are multiple contracts ahead of AC in their recovery.

US pilot groups were also smarter through those bad years, they took bigger pay cuts and maintained many other parts of their contracts.

ACPA from '03-'21 sold out the bottom of the list and pilots yet to arrive so badly, the damage is so deep, the repairs are massive.

Whatever it was - protecting WB pay with bigger cuts to NB pay, selling out the EMJ guys, cutting FO pay, pay group, 2 year flat pay, 4 year fixed pay, B-scale LCC and cargo... and much much more.

Is it an excuse? No. It just is what it is. I wanted us to get it all back last run and we didn't, so you have to accept that it's going to take a couple cycles. Arguing and saying your pissed and the Captains sold out the juniors and your association is horrible doesn't aid in achieving a positive outcome.

We're 15 months from contract expiry. I hope all the junior guys that will be CAs or into better WB pay don't forget about their year 2/3/4 and we can get the rest next year.

I am quite literally confused on what I am supposed to do.

I am supposed to volunteer my time so my elected reps can use my dues to pay for their ALPA days when they are supposed to be doing union work to better working conditions but instead turn around and do Volunteer Overtime?

So I am supposed to spend my free time doing union work while the guys who are supposed to be doing union work on ALPA time are doing VOLUNTEER OT?

What am I missing here.

Seems outrageous.

Sounds like one bad egg in YUL... I haven't looked, has anyone verified it?

I know most of the base reps work hard, representing our guys on day to day issues is a full time job. Plus the MEC work on top of it.

There are dozens of roles in the union if you want to be involved. From training to pilot support to suitcases to scheduling...

Seems like they learned it from the JAZ MEC. YUL based reps being the worst offenders.

You can’t fix stupid. But you can reign it in.

The ALPA WAWCON that your reps have comes from the membership. If there is abuse - draw the line or replace the ‘rep’ that thinks his/her extra income opportunities are a more important use of time than representing the pilots.

So I took a look at beyond my own base and see the YVR FO Rep is nearly #1 for the ENTIRE base too. And he is a Captain?! So he represents the Jr FOs by ignoring them doing VO?

This is insane. This among a thousand plus pilots.

ALPA MEC Reps behaving like pigs at a trough when they get their 90 hrs or whatever and then do VO.

Disgraceful behavior.
