If Canadians got the right to work in the EU would you go?
And what airlines would you like to apply to?

In order to fly an EU registered aircraft wouldn't you need an EASA license?

This procedure to convert to UK ATPL (I'm guessing it's gonna be something similar or same for EASA) is enough to make an average Canadian pilot to cry themselves to sleep.

Unless you go fly for BA (which is not EASA anymore), your wife would still be jealous. But, you can show her the BA FA's and tell her that's how Europe is. Then go for ULCC, those FA's are smoking hot. Captain salary? 7-8000€ after all deductions flying A321s ->150k CAD after deductions which is equivalent to 240k CAD salary in Canada (260k if in YUL). Base yourself in Portugal or Spain and your cost of living will be 2x lower than at AC. Not to mention QOL.flying4dollars wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 5:09 pmNo. Southeast Asia or bust. Re: If Canadians got the right to work in the EU would you go?
If you just wanted to hang out with smoking hot FA, go to Asia. Most airlines there pick FA's with the same standard as Models. And they all provide Visas. Not to mention most places you can rent a luxury apartment for 1000-1500, like high end luxury. Not sure if you can do that in England.Me262 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 10:18 amUnless you go fly for BA (which is not EASA anymore), your wife would still be jealous. Not sure how long I'd last in Asia because their SOPs dictates that you can only change a radio frequency turning the knob up in frequency and not allowed to go down using the knob.YYJhughes wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 11:01 amIf you just wanted to hang out with smoking hot FA, go to Asia. You can spend an entire day changing frequencies on the Q without touching a knob.

French Airlines want French speakers
German Airlines want German speakers
And so on.

Things are getting increasingly out of hand in the EU - I'm sure you've seen the footage from France.
This is being misrepresented by the media - it's a Communist Revolution (participants own words!).
These are the end result of years of failed Economic Policy and Mass Migration.
You really don't want to move to the EU - no future here imho.
These same failed policies have been implemented in Canada.

That's a bit dramatic. France has a long history of protests that turn violent and/or get hijacked by violent groups that have nothing to do with the message of the initial protest.Eric Janson wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2026 6:22 am Things are getting increasingly out of hand in the EU - I'm sure you've seen the footage from France.

The images you see today of the protests are the same I saw 25 years ago. Nothing much has changed. It gets reported more, and gets repurposed by whatever social media 'celebrity' needs more views and likes.
There is more influence on those same social media to get more extreme politicians elected. You see the same thing in North America.
Those protests and 'failed policies' are also what gives employees 35 hour work weeks 25 vacation days, affordable healthcare and a plethora of other social rights North Americans can only dream of.

Go back to spring and early summer 1968 in Paris, massive rioting and civil unrest as I remember it , due to the conservative views and actions of the Government of the time under Charles de Gaulle. My last year of High School, remember seeing it on TV.

Except now it's different... there are migrants from Africa and Muslims/Palestinian sympathizers causing havoc in those places. Idc about work week lengths and piss poor rationed healthcare that's a burden to the taxpayer.digits_ wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2026 10:06 amThat's a bit dramatic. Living under the nasty thumb of the EU is a terrible idea and I wouldn't wish it on my enemy.

It’s going to get a lot worse over there before it gets better. The only countries I would consider is Poland or Hungary. They didn’t allow a certain group into their countries and don’t seem to be having the problems France, Germany and UK are having. That stuff will unfortunately happen here in the future so be ready.

The specific countries cited as the source of troublemaker changes, but the basics stay the same. In the 80s the Algerians were deemed responsible. The root cause is, and has always been, poverty and economic challenges. It's not new.
Ok, then don't. Just don't spread this polarizing nonsense. Surely if these countries are so horrible they don't need you to exaggerate the situation?

The media is downplaying everything (the mostly peaceful protests again!) - can't have 'Progessive' policies with bad outcomes now can we?
The 35 hour work week and other benefits have bankrupted France - they are in serious Economic trouble (again). The rest of the EU isn't far behind.
There's plenty still to come - de-industrialisation and 'Net Zero' have serious consequences too.
Still no serious effort to do anything about Migration - which is being organised and funded by NGO's. Multiculturalism does not work.
And then there's War with Russia - complete insanity! That's really going to happen - jmho.
Just wait until people figure out that you can't vote your way out of this mess.....

Re: If Canadians got the right to work in the EU would you go?
So let me get this straight: France is collapsing because workers have too much vacation, healthcare is affordable, and people aren't working enough hours?
Meanwhile, the countries with some of the strongest social protections consistently rank among the world's happiest, healthiest and most prosperous.
Apparently the real threat to Western civilization isn't authoritarianism, inequality or war. It's five weeks of paid vacation and getting home in time for dinner.
Those poor Europeans. Someone should liberate them from their quality of life.

If the root causes are what you say they are, then they need to be the ones to deal with their own problems... it's not always up to the civilized world to bend over and take it.
