I don't know what "all in" is including - but this is misleading. Those AC wages are horsecrap as hardly anyone will ever reach those. On a level field most AC mechs will make about the same as Westjet....but if you want to go "all in" Westjet has 20% WSP.....so that will kill everyone else.

I suspect this was put out by the IAM as a posturing move.

This chart is an IAM response to the same chart's previous version where AMFA was mostly on top (except for Cargojet).

As such, one needs to realize the partisanship being illustrated in the graph.

Even if it is framed as IAM being on top, it represents only part of the picture.

The top wage at AC (lead), us held by about 50 people. That wages is not attainable by all.
The second wage is what a 10 year AME makes if he's met certain qualifications criteria. Presently, practically all AMEs with over 10 years get this wage but there are conditions attached to obtaining this wage that haven't been met by all the affected group yet they still get paid that wage.

The Westjet wage is calculated without the optional share ownership program which permits an employee to defer 20% of his wage for a year, after which he gets the deferred 20% back and the company matches the 20%. This would result in a wage equivalent at WJ of 73.60/hr for those who opt in. Not all employees opt in, you need to be in a financial position to live without that money for a year and everyone has a different financial reality.

The pension front is even harder to compare, AC has a legacy DB plan and some sort of a MEPP plan for non legacy employees. WJ to my knowledge has no pension plan and relies on individual employees to plan for retirement.

It's hard to illustrate all these details in a chart. The IAM (at AC) currently has all interest in appearing to ge a good choice for AME representation. They created this chart. It paints them in a better light than what they deserve. They in effect completely suppressed all AME voices at the last negotiations. The airport group runs and operates the IAM in Canada and Mtc at AC is captive as an oppressed minority within a group of airports and Cargo workers. The AC AMEs want out but the IAM will not let them seperate the bargaining unit through legal action against AC mtc.

That doesn't make the chart wrong, it's merely incomplete.

If anyone has more information to add, it will only benefit AMEs in Canada to ge aware of wages at different employment options.

Ontario MNR Year 1: 57.77 Year 4: 61.90 - Union - OPSEU. That's an Air Engineer 3 (Anyone with an AME License). No need for ACA or type certification to make those wages.

Company RRSP pension contribution matchs are a significant factor that should be accounted for in these charts. At Air Canada it is an embarrassingly low 6% because the Union doesn't view it as a 'voting' issue.
