!!!HELP!!! Sioux lookout

Post by Demosthenes »

Just wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences with Sioux Lookout. Positive, Negative, PM me if you'd like or post here. Also rent and cost of living estimates would be great. How about the airport and companies there???

Cheers!

ah good oll yxl!
well I've lived there and worked there and hate it there.
lots of companies, airport is probably one of the busiest in north ontario just behind thunder bay and there is no atc so you get screwed alot waiting for clearances.
In the summer you really can't get a better place to live as the town is surrounded by water, so there is lots of camping, fishing, and partying. Winter time if you don't have a snowmachine or play Hockey you'll be a hermit.
Rent is literally outrageous, the cost of a one bedroom is in the area of 600-700 bucks and if you can find something that is in decent shape your laughing.
other than that it's a great place to get started in aviation due to alot of pilots there to hand off there expierence to you
cheers.

yes I am bitter about that town, growing up in a dump like that would make anyone bitter :D

It's the type of place when your there you can't wait to get out of, but when you leave you'll always talk about. do it and have something to talk about later in life.

Cheers

YXL ..

It was a fun summer time place .. you'll meet a lot of the pilots in a short time. Most of them are pretty good guys/gals .. You'll enjoy your weekends at McFee's a lovely establishment, make sure you go for the Friday night steak sandwich .. kicks ass! ..

Advice .. rain coat x2 .. Wrap it!!

Ah, Sioux Lookout aint that bad. I bought a house here, cheaper than renting.(also, we couldent find a place to rent) Getting an apartment is easier durning the winter, but can still be changelling. If you dont have a car, or better yet, a truck, you'll want one, or have buddies that have one. You'll want to go hunting and fishing, and need wheels to get to the good spots! I grew up in a rural area, so living in a small town does not bother me, but i hate cities. After a saturday in Dryden, i'm ready to come back to where it aint so busy.
Most people are friendly and will help ya out.
Flying is good. Airport is busy, its a good place.
But I guess it depends on how/where you were brought up, and what ya make of it while you are here.

Everything 185 guy said is true, especially about owning a truck. People who prefer the city life don't really like it here.

Moved there from Bearskin's Dryden base. Airport housing was cheap, $250/M and they plowed the driveway! Summer on the lake, X-country skiing by the golfcourse in winter (watch out for Citations playing gear up toboggan). Theres a lot worse towns, like Dryden, Pickle or Armstrong.
Get a 'jumbo-G' at Jolly Jon's, a few beers at McFee's and make the best of it.

We all managed to keep Gelbisch from slicing his wrists before he became a big league A/C driver. You will gain some great experience and some fabulous friends. Good luck :drinkers:
