Anybody know the skinny of this company? They are in Whitehorse Yukon. I hear they have a couple of 737's three 748's and a BE99.
Any info on these guys would be appreciated.
I have flown with them many a time, and they are great. A relatively small company that after the demise of Can3000, and RoyalAirlines was fortunate enough to go head to head with AC on the Vancover Whitehorse route with the 737. ( Something to do with an agreement that AC WILL NOT undercut to put them out of business; and this was one of the main conditions for the sched to go ahead. ) Aside form that, they fly throughout he yukon and in the last two years have added a milk run flight to calgary and edmonton back to YXY.
I've never had anything but a good service from these people and they pretty much operate on a first name basis with their passengers.
In terms of getting work??? As far as i know, they hire from within and there are more than a few people waiting. Generally you start on the smaller Scheds throughout the North.
If you are experienced on the 737-200, preferably with a type course, theres a job there. If your a green engineer or an apprentice, don't hold your breath, they want experienced people there. Pay for the right person is above current averages, and Whitehorse apparently is'nt that shitty.
As to what kind of a place is it to work at, people there tell me it just like any other place. Your usual politics and incompetence that we've all seen everywhere else, no better, no worse. Some really hate it, some are content.
the Yukon govt. put a law in place that would disallow any airline company using predatory practices from getting government contracts. That said, when you live there and have to look people in the eye every day, you treat them differently. AC pooched an otherwise moneymaking route.
I know this thread is over a month old but I've been on the road and without internet for about a month. If anybody is still interrested about work with Air North in Whitehorse, send me a PM. Worked there for 4 years and know all the insides.
