"Grumpy the Shell Fuel Guy" hardly ever smiles. I think I may have seen him smile once when I was talking to him...or maybe it was afterwards when I saw my reflection in the glass laughing histerically because of his childish intelligence. Wah wah wah.....I hate my job.....wah wah wah......no one knows how to page me properly.....wah wah wah.....(need I go on??)

Ummm I don't buy this at all. I've been flying around Saskatchewan for years. You can take off from Estevan and fly to Regina at night simply by looking at Regina and flying to it. Typically the sky is clear of cloud and the moon is shining so bright you can see just fine. In my humble opinion this province has the best flying conditions you can ask for. Lose an engine? who gives a shit Saskatchewan is just a big runway. got one going north south and east west every mile.shitdisturber wrote:Don't try night vfr unless you're near the Trans Canada corridor or Saskatoon. Hundreds of miles of darkness make it a wee bit tough, fly the airways.

If you are flying across SK. A must stop is Unity. Small community of approx. 3000 just south of N.Battleford. Cheap fuel, loaner car, or the locals will give you a ride. Active flying club with an excellent building, washrooms, and atmosphere.
Real nice people, and unique variety of aircraft.

Saskatchewan actually has a decent digital cell network. You can pretty well get digital service from La Ronge south, especially once you get south of PA they have towers all over the place. There aren't a whole lot of areas you can't get service. As soon as you past north LA ,better have a sat phone.Word of caution, Sask has horrible celluar coverage in most places so don't count on that gizmo to close your flight plan.

I think Sasktel is in a pissing match with Telus though. I know it used to be if you had a Telus phone it would not recieve a digital signal on Sasktel's network.heavymetal wrote:Saskatchewan actually has a decent digital cell network. Sask. is a pretty good place to live in my opinion, not the same rat race as in Alberta, the same house here would probably cost you half as much as it would over there. Once you get north of Saskatoon, the scenery gets a whole lot better. If you enjoy nature and and wide open spaces, this is the place for you. The taxes are kind of gross, but the cheap car insurance probably makes up for it, overall it's a farily cheap place to live, which helps in this industry.
You're either in, or you're in the way!

that may be easy to say for someone who hasnt spent a whole lot of time in saskatchewan. Fly in the north or even just deal with the northern customers for scheds or charters and you'll high-tailing it some where else. But I do agree the scenery is awesome aspecially up by YSF and YBE and basically the whole north really. Prince Albert is only good for its balance of farming and foresty. Great for practising mock forced landings. The southern section is pretty boring and flat.

That would imply the Socialist Republic of Saskatchewan is trying to hold a monopoly in telephone services. Not in the Saskatchewan I know. Next thing you know there will only be one choice for Power and Natural Gas and car insurance providers.I think Sasktel is in a pissing match with Telus though. All kidding aside, anyone with Telus or Rogers does get screwed pretty good. Their cell network is limited to Saskatoon and Regina pretty well I have heard.
