A Canadian Navy Sea King helicopter crashed 50 kilometres off the coast of Denmark on Thursday night. The aircraft was taking part in nighttime exercises as part of a NATO mission.
None of the five crew members were injured. "All five crew members were recovered by the ship and are safe," the Department of National Defence said in news release. "All have been examined by the medical officer and have returned to their quarters. Their families have been advised of the incident."
The accident happened while the crew practised night landings on the deck of HMCS Athabaskan.
The Sea King is in 16 metres of water. Defence officials say a full investigation into the incident is underway.
The accident is just the latest in a long string of problems for the Sea Kings.
Ottawa is buying 28 Cyclones to replace the Sea Kings, but the first aircraft won't be delivered until late 2008.

Thank goodness all are safe.
My eldest brother was in the Navy and in the very early 1970s while at sea aboard destroyer HMCS Nipigon (I think) out of Halifax, saw the ship's helo quit and plummet into the sea like a stone, all hands lost. His contact to us at home immediately afterwards said it was the most disturbing thing he'd ever seen in his life.
