This pic is from a 172 for crying out loud. Isn't learning to fly analouge a time honoured tradition?

Everything evolves, man did eventually find a better home than living in caves...
.......flying with analog instruments is living in the past, if you can fly glass..

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I'd give my left nut to have a G1000 in one of my planes. And my left nut is the big one, too!!

Cessna was offering the glass package at the same price as the analog IFR package last time I heard. If your spending the dough to buy a 182 or 172, why not get the schnazzy toys too?

Cal..
If you look real close you will see two sets of rudder pedals and two control sticks...you can fly it with those with the EFIS shut off if you so choose.

EFIS 172
I don't instruct anymore but I would think needs to be pointed out is that low time CPL builders keep their eyes up and outside! Flying these glass 172's may be fine for some PPL work, but remember to learn to be comfortable with turning the bloody thing off and fly using basic skills like "pilotage". I cannot tell you how many times in my career the GPS "idiot panel" as I call it - Fails due to lack of RAIM or signal degradation. Learn now to deal with it before bussing around 20 people or more in IFR at night with a little ice thrown in for measure. But anyway congrats to Cessna for finding a new way to move their 172's.

Well let's just take HSIs out of the cockpit. mabey calculators gps,and autopilots too. I think we should embrace any new technology that comes out. The responsibility should be on the instructors to teach the limitations of this new equipment not discouraging its use.
Welcome to the future people. Like it or not, you had better get used to it. The days of a needle and ball, airspeed indicator and oil pressure gauge or over. Of course there are still the operators out there that haven't even got into the 50's yet!
We just had one of our Twin Otters converted to full glass and the other 4 are probably not far behind. More dependable and cheaper so why not! We have glass in the 415's and it is pretty much bullet proof.

The flight schools that would purchase a setup like that just want the students transition into the airbus to be as easy as possible...or atleast that's the crap they will be telling the potential students!

Hmmmm..
This caught my eye and I got to thinking about how many times I have had GPS signals "fail" due to " signal degradation... ".
All I can recall is twice, once in Bamako Mali in 1997 and the second time was in Bordeaux France in I believe 1999 or 2000 and both times it was due to poor placement of the GPS antenna using a hand held GPS.
What possible connection is there between RAIM and flight training in a Cessna 172 or any other bug smasher that is used in training for the PPL or Cpl?

good luck passing a flight test if you can't read a map...
besides, if you're the instructor, why not turn the bloody machine off if you want to teach map skills? keep in mind who is the dog and who is the tail.
What exactly is so bad about a glass-cockpit anyway? If anything, I've noticed that FTUs don't teach enough about the technology availible onboard their A/C. If you teach the kids how to use a DME, might as well teach them to use the rest of the avionics.
