are you including Jazz as Air Canada? I'd guess Canjet and First Air would be up there too.

Kinda of funny that the 3rd and 4th largest airlines (who ever they may be) all have their own little niche in the market right now and not alot of clashing is going on.....but the summer is coming.

Are you just talking airlines that fly pax, or do you want to include cargo ops?

If you include cargo, Flightcraft would be well up there as well as Cargojet.

As Sage said, Jazz is the second largest airline in Canada, followed by Westjet.

I know that Jazz falls under the ACE Aviation umbrella, but they are a completely separate airline, with their own OC. In fact, Air Canda has to purchase the seats (on Jazz) that they intend to sell to the public.

Yeah just like we pay IMP for our hangar space.....from one pocket to the other..... and no tax declared.

I would not have thought Jazz was bigger than WJ. Pilots and airplane wise? What is your source for them being bigger just curious? Any westjeters got any stats on pilots and aircraft they wanna share I am curious. Same for Jazz.

Thanks Rebel. That saves me from cut and pasting.

From an ACJ press release: "Jazz is Canada's largest regional airline and the second largest in terms of fleet size and number of routes operated. As of February 1, 2006, Air Canada Jazz operated scheduled passenger service on behalf of Air Canada with approximately 738 departures per weekday to 56 destinations in Canada and 22 destinations in the United States with a fleet of 127 aircraft."

In July of this year we should have 135 aircraft in the fleet. Do a search for the Jazz IPO and you should have all the info you need.

What are you looking at, large airplanes only? What about Kenn Borek Air?

50+ aircraft and crews for them. I believe it's the largest fleet of twotters, 34 I think, in the world, and the largest user of PT-6's outside the US military.

Most people don't know who we are because outside of Alberta, all the work is in the Arctic, Antarctic, Male or eslewhere internationally.

Good point Loopy. But the heading is 3rd largest Airline. Isn't Borek, with the exception of a plane or 2, a commuter (704) service?

Info

Post by B757FO »

Thanks for all the info guys was a bit of an eye opener with those figures. I didn't realize WJ only had 51 airplanes I thought they had allot more than that. And likewise I did not realize Jazz had so many!

Other question for a Jazz guy. I used to travel lots to Richmond Virginia on Air Alliance years ago out of YYZ. They cancelled this run but my question is Georgian operating still under Jazz as Jazz? Call signs etc routes? Are they still working for Air Canada? I here Georgian on the radio in YYZ but not sure if they are operating Jazz routes.

Any info thanks.

Just to clarify, Jazz is 2nd in terms of number of aircraft and number of routes. WestJet is bigger in terms of revenue and available seat miles. Neither answer is wrong, it just depends on the metric you are using.

Oh, and I believe WJ is at 55 aircraft now---new delivery yesterday.

hey mech, Flew through YHZ on wed this week, wondering why 3 a/c were sitting at your hangar mid morning, then we went to YYZ there was 1 sitting infield and one getting towed to transboarder side....alot of A/C sitting around. My question is what is the average fleet utilization hours per day per a/c...ie WJ is about 12 hrs per day and increasing to 12.5 here shortly on average.

Hey,

not sure on the utilization but I did look at wed. flight-trac an 1 A/C was down for MX and 1 was a spare 1 was heading down south at 10:30am, the one in TO was due out down south somewhere later that day. the rest we didn't see for the next 3 days they were all flying. the MX machines were also put into service that afternoon.

can't judge a book buy it's cover....you just seen a snap shot of the operation

I don't really know to be honest with ya. Don't mean to be a dick but I don't think it would be wise for me to post such numbers.

OK lets get real for a minute.Your compareing an operation with 180 on floats (bearskin , Harvey's own personal) or beaver or twin otter (First air)
to AC's a-340 or WJ 737-700"s?????? Give me a break. Im wondering what kind of operation you actually fly for if you fly at all.
Putting Georgian in Westjets or Air Transits class is just dumb and really does not make sense.Better yet you stated airline operation and yes CargoJet does have 727 and are 705 i think...man they are cargo not pax, Heance the name . Airline operation means just that ;airline 705ops . Your numbers are probaly right but 737 Mech is right. the point is the three biggest airlines in Canada.it kind of narrows the playing field a bit. I'm surprised you did not add Air Tindi in thereas well , or did you?

AC -198
Jazz -129
WJ -52
First Air -18
Calm Air -15
Canjet -10 (Thanks for your numbers)

These operators run Domestic and international sked 705 ops , I have left out any Cargo or Charter only operators (Sky service, Tansit, etc ) for obvious reasons.

Cheers
