I agree with everyone elses sentiment. IF the seals looked like rats nobody would care. Why do all the pretty animals/people get all the attention. I noticed he was wearing Canada Goose gear, the down filling came from an animal that had to be killed. Think about it.

Why is the seal special? Save them all or treat them all equally. One or the other, enough with the hypocrisy. He probably sat on a leather first class seat on his way over here. Treat the cow like the seal.

BTW I don't think we should save them all. Just search for that PETA discussion from last week. Crazy animal liberators. Meat tastes good and my pets seem to want to stay at my place.

did anyone catch "Sir" Paul and his little lady on Larry King Live? they didnt know the difference between PEI, and Newfoundland. Why the hell do they think people will listen to them when they say things like "Were already there" (Newfoundland) while they are doing the interview in Charletown. Heather is obviously emotionally charged by this thing and sounds a little fanatical. she claims that this is also wrong because they dont eat the seals, I think everyone knows that people eat seal meat.
Anyway just a little sick of the "rock stars" becoming bleeding hearts when they get washed up. (Bono) for one. please shut up and continue eating from your silver platters.

Wonder where Sir Paul and his new squeeze were when the Cod stocks were being decimated. But then, petting a Cod doesn't really make for a good Kodak moment.

Hell, after a few weeks the cuddly little white things will just be an ugly seal and know one will care so go ahead and cuff it upside the head.

Did you see the shot of them lying on the ice talking about the sweet innocent baby seals?

The thing tried to take a bite out of his wife! That'll only leave her with one leg and one arm. (I know that was insensitive of me)

Its sad that a guy with all that money can't find a more worthy cause to put his name and fame behind.

This is nothing but an attention grab from someone who's used to being the center of attention.

Personally, I dont have a problem with killing an animal for the purpose of eating it, but at the very least, they should shoot it in the head, instead of clubbing it to death.

Two things, wild cat.

-I don't think the primary purpose of killing the seals is for food. I think it's primarily for the pelt.

-According to the Newf premier, 90% of the killing is now done with bullets as opposed to clubs. (I didn't know that until recently)

I do however agree with you that the additional cost is justified in order to make the killing as humane as possible.

From the Toronto Star reporting on Larry-King Live:
(Premier) Williams insisted the seals are killed humanely, saying 90 per cent of them are shot, not clubbed a claim McCartney's wife called "absolute rubbish."

Sir Paul has enough money to make a REAL difference for someone, somewhere. What a waste that he chooses to "harp" about a few seals.

Wild cat

I was wrong when I said earlier that the newborn harp seals are killed ofr their pelts.

I found out tonight that it's actually illegal to harm a harp seal before it's colour changes.

Thus it looks like you were right - they're being hunted for their meat. My earlier information was outdated. Mea Culpa.

The redoubtable newf premier also had lots of facts to back up his contention that hte hunt is indeed carried out in a humane manner.

Go home and munch some tofu, Paul and wasshername. You're no longer welcome here.

Actually they hunt them for both (meat and pelts). But it's illegal to hunt them before they lose their white fur, but even the darker fur is really valuable (I heard they get up to $70/pelt). Some of the oils in the meat is used in medications.

Red Lobster and some other seafood restaurants have boycotted Canadian seafood until the seal hunt is stopped.

Something interesting I read: the seals as shown in all the Greenpeace ads (the cute ones) are actually banned from clubbing, but they make nice emtional advertising.

What I don't get is why shooting a seal is considered more humane than clubbing them. I mean how many seals survive the first blow? I'd say unless they're being shot from fairly close range, the likelihood of them suffering pain is greater from being shot than being clubbed.

I watched the L'arry King "debate" and I'd have to say that while McCartney was poorly informed, he was polite. Mills-McCartney on the other hand was annoying to the point that I just couldn't listen to her. You'd want to have some sort of high-frequency noise-cancelling device to survive around her.
