Seriously though, what good is the skill of skydiving. If the situation is bad enough to bail out, I'll be there till the very end doing my job until every last piece of metal stops moving.

Could you really run past 10 people sitting in their seats and yell seeeee yyyaaaaaaaa! as you fling out the door and send them to meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates on their own?

Intentional Left Bank <=== I believe that some people are more prone to addictive personalities. I myself know that I get an adrenaline rush when I go gambling -- However ! because I know I lean towards gambling, I have not yet gone to Vegas as this would to me be like tempting fate as you put it.

I may one day decide to temp fate armed with only the money on me (no access to debit or credit) and that I believe would considerably lessen my chances that I would lose my car or computer over it (the only things I have worth anything

). Of course, this doesn't compare to losing one's life. But if a person is addicted only they can decide when enough is enough -- or it's intervention with therapy and as we all know that's not 100% effective.

So, this means that the gene pool will lose a member of the "highly-addictive adrenaline junky" type -- will this be a big blow in your life ? Live and let live (or die as the case may be).

I do not mean to be putting anyone down by my comments -- tongue in cheek -- after all, I've tried Parasailing and hang gliding (somewhat dangerous).

The way I see it, from a glider pilots perspective. You wear a 'chute on XC's, competitions, and aerobatics (or if needed as a balast). I'd rather be properly trained how to use the chute first rather than trying to figure it out the first time in a high stress situation.

Moral of the story, I plan on getting my jump licence after my CPL. Looks like a riot and would be benificial.

I'm terrified of heights - and there is no way in hell you'd get me anywhere near the open door of an aircraft in flight.

An aircraft would have to be completely engulfed in flames or completely uncontrollable before I'd jump.

I've done 3 (solo static line) jumps, back in the old round canopy days. No big deal. it did not pose much of an intellectual challenge

I went gliding in England once, and in Europe EVERYONE who is in a glider wears a chute (something i'm not used to here in Canada). So that was cool, we got a bit of training on it, just real basic stuff.

I remember thinking that the gliding was awesome (loops, chandelles, etc) and the motogliding was good too, but the whole time I was hoping something would screw up so I could pop the canopy and jump.

If I'm ever QGI at Gimli i think I might give it a try... To each their own. Death comes when he wants you, although you can screw up and go to him on your own.

Did one jump at Sunderland airport (NE England for everyone who thinks the only city in England is f**kin' London) back in '84, before thay started building Nissan Micra's there!
Spent the whole day jumping off tables and practicing landing properly. Was so tired by the time I jumped (2000, static line), that I landed with a tailwind on my head - actually enjoyed the jump though.

Have fun, but I wouldn't spend a penny of my money doing it.

Being that my boss rides in the back, I highly doubt he would pay to train me to leave him behind to sort things out either.

Also exit speed is 100+ knots on the King Air and up to 14000' in 8 min
Cessna 182 is 70-80 knots to 10500' as TG said in 25-30min
The King Air just makes the jump a little more fun

When flying XC's, you may need a parachute for exact reasons like that glider to lear mid air. Glider pilot had a chute, and survived.

Competitions, there are several gliders in the air, and you could be thermaling with all those gliders in ONE thermal. Close proximity = higher chance of mid air....a chute may be a good idea.

Aerobatics....self explanitory.

People use them for spin training, and also some glider seats are designed for a chute to be worn. It can be used as a ballast or just make the seat more comfortable overall.
