Liver Enzyme

Post by ziggy »

What is the story with the liver enzyme test at Air Canada. I have heard of people failing it and doing it over again until they pass it. What happens if you fail it? Is there anything you can do/take to pass it? Other than the obvious!

It is not an exact science! but drink lots of water leading up to the blood test and take milk thistle extract pills or liquid which can be bought at any drug store!

If you have a fatty liver which is quite common they may send you for some extra tests to ensure you don't have Gall stones or other problems but don't sweat it.

Good luck!

High blood enzymes could indicate a host of problems, or nothing at all. What it does say is that your liver is working over time, so take care of yourself, if you know you have an interveiw and for god sake don't have a couple of beers with your buds the night before the interview.

I guess you have a choice: keep drinking a lot, or get a really good retirement job. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Like Bede says, if you are worried, stop drinking, you will be better off for it in the long run.

And yes, mainline and jazz medicals are the same, with the same sexy nurse :D

Good luck

Please don't tell me your talking about the black nurse, who gets mad at you if you can't read a number, than realizes, she doesn't have the colour blindness machine set up right.

That's the one Bede, but you have her all wrong. She may come across as cold and stern, but she has a warm fuzzy side. I must say, we have shared some magical moments together. 8)

I retested today for the GGT.

Count dropped from 98 on last Weds to 69 today.

Still not good enough, so it seems I am done, but for everyones future info, I drank water only and had 6 milk thistle pills a day. The DR. was suprised I got it down so quick, so if you get a 70-88 on your first shot, I think you have a shot on the 2nd test by adopting the milk thistle/only water routine.

True, but I was only averaging 2-3 beers a night with the boys and still got a 98. I would HIGHLY recommend you STOP drinking 10 days before your Interview and stick to water (Diet Coke has Methoalcohol the mess with liver too- 10% by volume) and milk thistle.

I did not consider myself a "heavy" drinker. Obviously, I was wrong.

I've always operated under the assumption that "1 beer" per day was considered normal consumption. 2-3 is quite a bit...almost 4 cases a month. Not a drinking problem but certainly a health concern over the long term.

So.... no diet coke or alcohol..... anybody know of any websites that explain the test and what other foods in general to avoid for this "fatty Liver" deal? I am sure that this could help all of us understand what the heck they are checking this for... (apart from finding out who the booze hounds are!!!)

If you guys are serious about passing your medical, just pick up a copy of the "South Beach Diet" at your local Chapters.

It was written by a cardioligist and was used for his patients. You don't need to do the whole diet but phase one which takes 14 days, will completey reset your blood chemistry and if you are carrying a 5 pound tire, that will go too.

When I applied to AC, I did so because I wanted to fly there. I stopped drinking booze and most soft drinks and stuck to water juice and skim milk. I also cut out all fast foods. I rode the exercise bike mostly everyday for 30-45 min. When the call came 3 months latter I had lost 30+ pounds and passed the medical no problem. So the question is, how bad do you want to be here? Getting a job at AC was far more important than a few beers, to me. Is it for you?

Way to go YUL,

Glad that you got what you wanted. And you are right, how bad do you want it?

Now that you have said what works maybe it will help future candidates to determine what they might do in prep for an interview.
