Life, the universe, and everything

Post by gelbisch »

I'm reading a new book by a very amusing chap, Christopher Moore. One passage really resonated with me, and explains so much. The protagonist has just bought some pet turtles for his daughter:

"He bought them a large kidney-shaped dish that had its own little island, a plastic palm tree, some aquatic plants, and a snail. The snail, presumably, to bolster the self-esteem of the turtles: 'You think we're slow? Look at that guy.' To shore up the snail's morale in the same way, there was a rock. Everyone is happier if they have someone to look down on, as well as someone to look up to, especially if they resent both. This is not only the Beta Male strategy for survival, but the basis for capitalism, democracy, and most religions."

Cheers, and don't forget to reset those clocks!!

As a Beta Male, I find that to be false. I look up to no one, and I look down on no one. I just look in the mirror and say, "You're a swell guy, too bad chicks just don't get ya."

Then I dance in my kitchen.

If you don't appreciate that, then bite me.

Oh ya! I'm gonna reset my clocks right now. PAAAARRTY!

That's because we are terrified of any kind of change in Saskatchewan.....Something bad might happen if we change.

Yeah, you guys are the only province that has it right, this changing clocks is such a total crock. Oh, I know, we get more daylight in the pm, and that is good how? With so many people working shifts and wierd hrs, I venture to say it is of little savings in power consumption. No one can categorically say one way or another. So why do it? Beats me.

Why? For most people that work regular hours, it means that an hour of daylight that would happen when they're still in bed becomes an hour of daylight in the evening when they can take their kids to soccer. That's the only advantage that I can point out without getting into a squabble about energy consumption.

Note: I don't work regular shifts, I don't have kids, and don't drive anyone to soccer.

I hope that I was able to translate Foghorns post correctly from the dialect of troll that it was written in, as I seem to have forgotten my babel fish somewhere on that Vogon constructor fleet.

Yes. And then there's good ol' CBC in YVR that can't seem to catch up either...the west changes, Alberta changes, but not the Peace or East Kootaney. Makes for confusion, missed appointments and meetings etc
which is costs absorbed by somebody for sure, just not the CBC. Maybe they would try harder after waiting a while on a stretcher for a flight out.

If anyone ever needed proof that pilots are nerds, this thread is it! One post related to neither of the following turns into a debate re. Daylight Savings Time and a bunch of references to Mr. Adams's work!!

Thankfully for us all, the Nerds will inherit the Earth!

Nerds have already inherited the Intardnet, so the earth will come next.

If you'll excuse me, I have a fancy dress party to go to. There's this really froody berk there that wants to show me some sort gold heart thingy...he seems really keen on it.
