I hope your reply is not representative of the ability of folks in YYZ to mount an intelligent rebuttal.qwert wrote:Toronto rocks. It sounds like you guys came out of some fuckin hole from up north. All this shitty country has to offer is Toronto. Try to get laid instead of bashing a TO and TZ. VIRGINS!!!
It's a typical tdot attitude. An example of why the rest of us love to hate Toronto.
Hey...let's start up the separatism debate. I suggest that Toronto separate. We can carve it off from the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and float it across to the US side. Then the NY National Guard can respond when there's snowfall.

Please don't tell my mother that I work in the Oilpatch...she still thinks that I'm the piano player at a whorehouse.

anyway...
I'd love to see a runway extension at YTZ. Cue horror from the nimbys.
Not a jet length extension of 08/26 but an extension to about the same length of 06/24, with a landfill at the 06 end or on piers as at Madeira. The western approach would be further from shore and the eastern approach might be better for obstacle avoidance?

Is 06/24 even needed at the Island?
Is 15 going to be shut down for arrivals? I notced some very tall condos being built close to the centreline about a mile final.

Speak for yourself! I love Toronto. It is a world class city with much to offer for the sophisticated individual. I have spent quite a bit of time up North and personally don't find it appealing at all. We are all different and as such have different likes and dislikes. It would be quite ignorant of me to make a broad statement like "Up North is a shit hole at the best of times". Besides if you hate it so much, you don't have to come here. The choice is ultimatley yours.N2 wrote:Toronto is a shit hole at the best of times!
I do speak for myself when I say that. Having lived in a few major Canadian cities I have to say TO is the worst so far! Only people who have never lived anywhere else blow their horn about what a great place this is...excuse me I am just enjoying the warm breeze created by a bullet flying by.....yep no place like TO...unless your a sophisticated individual like yourself....LOL
Good luck to anyone trying to buy a home here without an income of atleast 80k per year or have one hefty downstroke. Measure quality of life and you will find Toronto is way down the list.

Putting money into aviation is like wiping before you poop....it just don't make sense!

Thank you for another brilliant statement. Sorry to blow your theory out of the water, but I have lived in Asia, several places in Western Europe including the U.K., West Africa, the East coast of Canada and Montreal. I am not being more specific as I like my anonymity, but let me tell you that Toronto is tops on my list. They all have their good and bad, but overall T.O. wins. I also know many friends in aviation that are spread throughout the globe thanks to the 9-11 aftermath that feel the same way. To each their own, but it isn't hard to find people that love Toroto.N2 wrote:Only people who have never lived anywhere else blow their horn about what a great place this is
Or you get OD on drugs supplied from the streets of Vancouver. Hang with the natives and burn down homes in Winnipeg. Wear shit kickers, a cowboy hat and drive a pickup in Calgary. (a lot of class there) Dont even want to know what happens in Saskatoon or Regina. You can live in Quebec and pretend that Canada does not exist cause speaking French is the only way of life. Dont really care about other places in Canada. They shouldnt even be on a map. Like i said, Canada has only one thing to offer and its TORONTO...N2 wrote:I do speak for myself when I say that. ...and it's just as easy to find those who dislike toronto...such as I. Montreal out classes Toronto by a mile in my books.
I don't like Toronto and that is my stance on things so deal with it. If you love it that is your opinion and you're are entitled to your opinion but don't come down on me because of mine!

Pam and Paul against "seal hunt," yep, lots of seal hunting in Toronto....qwert wrote:Like i said, Canada has only one thing to offer and its TORONTO...
Toronto, doesn't even hit the media like it once did, it's sports franchises except for the Rock(but no one watch lacrosse) suck.
The streets are dirty that's a generalization, if I said spadina, well, we'd probably be the dirtiest in NA.
The streets that aren't dirty are cracked and full of pot holes and the sad part is they were repaired the year before by some over priced contractor....
The mayor, lol... I don't even need to comment on that guy...
6+ olympic bids and everyone has cost the city millions(just the bids) and it hasn't got any of the games.(That's a big clue your city sucks when you can't get the olympics if you preach to be "world class")
Nice level of crime to have you scared and in bed by 10pm.
Over priced TTC service that is so poorly run and operated we have some roots that run every 30 minutes and the buses are always empty...
We're the leader of homeless, cause everyone send there's here....
oh yeah, and we spent 150 million a "TO UNLIMITED" or whatever the hell it was logo and after the world laughed at it, they took it off the "market" within 24hrs they had wasted 150 million... brilliant...
So what does TO offer to you or me????
I don't know..

Hey Doc,
This will make you want to visit this place real soon and maybe even move to To. and work out of there. Your friend and mine from the good old days just took a position with Porter. You know who.... Best thing that ever happened to that place in YQT. And the death nail for Porter. Can anyone else give more details.

Gotta love that reasoning... 60 km/h = 33 kts... anybody want to hazard a guess as to how often there is a 33 kt xwind component on all runways??NOW's article wrote:Besides the early-morning lake fog, crosswinds also make the TCCA tricky to navigate. CommunityAIR points out that crosswinds of 60 km/h will prevent the Q400 from landing on any of the airport's runways.
hmmm... why didn't anybody ever tell me how dangerous this was?!? Had I known all of this, I never would have flown here!Evidence of how dangerous piloting planes into the Island Airport can be is found on the Port Authority's own website, which lists a host of areas for pilots to avoid on takeoff and approach. These include trees on the southern approach, high-masted ships in the harbour, a 113-metre flagpole, a 290-metre industrial stack on the eastern approach and the wind turbine at the CNE - not to mention the condos springing up like mushrooms all along the waterfront.
On that note, let's close EVERY AIRPORT IN BC! All those mountains make it way too dangerous to fly there!
i say no more...NOW wrote:Plans to fly Q400 turboprops out of the Island Airport have CommunityAIR warning of disaster. Not only is this jet-like plane likely to have trouble navigating the obstacle-course shoreline, but it's also too large for the airport's runways. Why, then, is the Toronto Port Authority going full throttle, expanding its ferry terminal to welcome more passengers?

Typical of a poorly-founded protest. It has to rely on half-truths, rumours and innuendo. Their only real position is simply put: "I don't wanna".
Deluce knows these people are there, tho. And he's going ahead regardless, with major, stable, well-respected funders backing him. So he must feel very assured things will come off in his favour. Good for him.
As for NOW magazine, well, 20 years ago it was a good little entertainment paper for concert listings, etc. Now it's just a trashy pseudo-political rag populated by ageing has-been leftie layabouts and their slacker children.

Any aviation experts care to comment on why birds have a magical attraction to the Q400? Perhaps it's so quiet, they can't hear it coming! The Island Airport is smack in the middle of a major migratory bird route, great news for birders, but not for pilots of Dash 8s (the Q400 is a Dash 8 aircraft) which happen to be the type of plane most frequently involved in bird strikes.

Hey man, what about those NFLD and Labrador commercials on TV? They have places such as "Conception Bay" to offer the world!qwert wrote: Or you get OD on drugs supplied from the streets of Vancouver. It's well known they are mostly attracted to the lit-up downtown office towers - since most of them don't turn the lights off at night the birds smack into the windows.
Hope Deluce does full scale testing soon to wipe the smirk off Sparrow's face.
If someone at Porter reads these boards - when the ill-fated Jetmagic started E145s out of EICK they made their first flight a charity auction. Porter should offer a quick flight around Lake Ont to say the Falls and back - good for publicity I'd say!
