Don't work on the ramp LH498.
If you don't want to you won't do anyone any good. I have never had to work the ramp. There is nothing wrong with it, especially if it gets you on a turbine aircraft faster. I saw some guys bypass me who worked the ramp, but now I have much more PIC.
It is somewhat a geographical question as well. My career has been in Ontario where working the ramp for turbine jobs is not very common. Pilots do not work the ramp at Voyageur, Bearskin, Thunder (except a couple on the van), Flghtexec. You get the idea. It just doesn't happen here.Go out west and it seems more prevalent. Especially at Perimeter and of course Skyward. Famous for the "I would never be an instructor" type of pilots.
All this to say you can choose your own route in this crazy business to some degree.
Do what you want to do.

A couple guys mentioned that "with your time" you should have a job. Well, 1400TT really isn't a tonne of time. It seems like the big hiring that has been happening lately is with guys with a bit more time. Be patient. With higher-time guys getting picked up, hopefully there will be more jobs available for people like you.
Good luck!!

Anyone who won't consider the ramp also sounds like someone not willing to scrub a plane. Just cause your a pilot doesn't put you above any job.

I dont think he mentioned where he's worked before and having only 100 more total hours than PIC says PPL who's been flying his own plane to get the hours up. Maybe thats why finding a job is tough. Even when the industry is doing well I dont think the perfect job will fall into your lap - keep plugging away
I wouldn't work the ramp with 1300 hours PIC either.
Something tells me the problem might be more with language barrier than bad attitude. Sometimes if you don't have a proper grasp on a language, things you say get misconstrued.
I'm guessing English isn't your first language. Maybe have someone proof read your resume, make sure it's not riddled with typos.
If English IS your first language, then back to night school for you, because your spelling is atrocious.
Really though, you should be able to find a flying job on wheels with your time. Keep pluggin'...

1st you gotta ignore the negative stuff from the wimpering weenies. Put a smile on your face when you walk in the door to a prospective employer. keep sending out the resumes and knocking on doors there are jobs out there. Make sure your resume is in good order keep it brief, interesting and professional (have some one critiuqe it). If you put your resume in a nice folder it makes it harder to throw away. Dress well but don,t over dress. You said you had talked to some Chief pilots which tells me you,ve been able to get past the secretary, good take advantage of that opportunity. Stay in touch with him if he doesnt have anything maybe he knows some other operators who do, ask him. If you are gonna knock on a door before you do find out about the operator, be well informed. Remember 1st impression last forever so make it a good one.
Re: Not as much hiring as everybody says!
Have you tried Lockhart Air Services...they are hiring a C310 Captain (single pilot IFR) and you meet the requirements. Just a headsu up you would have to do ground duties on the airplanes.LH498 wrote:Everybody is talking about movement and that smaller companies are hiring like crazy, but why dont i get a call? 1400TT 300Multi

Just to play devils advocate here for a second....I wouldn't work the ramp either. Not because I'm affraid of hard work, I work my ass off everyday. I just couldn't afford to do it. I have 35k in debt to pay off for flight training and a car loan, rent, food etc. Working for $8.50/hr just won't cut it, even with 20 hrs of O.T per week. Not saying it below me here either, but I spent 50k for flight training to fly, not get used as a source of cheap labour. Ask me to fuel my own plane, clean it, load it...hell I'd even strip it and paint it ! Just don't try and take advantage of me. I know not all places do either, but I can't afford waste another year of my life to find out.

Sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feelin' better when I'm feelin no pain.

Heres what I think is going on, there is hiring right now but its guys who have been sitting in king airs for awhile moving up to some thing bigger. Its slowly going to trickle down to the "lower" time guys moving up. The hiring is of already PPC'd guys, but its not a frenzy like some believe.
I sent out a few resumes to test the waters, I focused on bigger companies with machines Id like to get into to make it worth the move. I can afford to be choosy having a stable gig that pays well.

I got one call back for a 206 entry position with low pay. That was out of about 75 resumes.

Here's the deal... we all know it is all about supply and demand.... Canada is FULL of pilots, and I do mean FULL!
For Canada's population, I believe having 50-70 thousand pilots is a LOT... correct me if I'm wrong, but that's about right?
So that is why they ask for unbelievably high experience for jobs where in some other places of the world it seems as if they asked for unbeliavably low experience It's all about supply and demand... Canada is fortunate right now, because we are seeing a slight increase in demand for pilots right now, but unfortunately the supply is still pretty high!
AC is hiring a ton of people, up to 700 people in the next year and a half from what I've heard... to be honest, that's a LOT of hiring... but compared to the amount of pilots in canada... it's a small piece of the pie... let's be happy that it's getting better though and hope this continues on
Cheers,
DNB
