I have a friend whose worked there and apparently for the summer its not a bad deal. You work 7 weeks on almost exclusively the cadets and finish with a class 3. The rest of the year apparently is really bad. No base pay. You are told that you will get the work they have, so if you fly 5 hours in month that's it. They do not insure work. Apparently family owned. Probably a good place to get in for cadets but dont stick around.

If you can commit to a summer, you can walk away with a 3, though I would not stay the winter, just not enough work for the low man on the ladder.

Good company, and great way to start your career in aviation (if you like teaching). You will be working 6-7 days a week with the Air Cadets, build a bunch of time and get your class 3 instructor rating. If you don't teach for the Air Cadets, it would take several months or even a year before you could be upgraded to a class 3. Regular student just don't finish their training in the short amount of time that the cadets do. In fact, lots of students never follow through to the completion of their license (lack of $ or time). Working the Air Cadet program is guaranteed full-time instructing, which you may not find at other flight schools. However, once the cadets are finished, you won't have much work.

I would recommend working there for the summer, but not for the winter. Once you have your class 3, you will be more employable and can be a free-lance instructor as well (as a class 4, you are under supervision). If you get your class 3, PM me and I may be able to help you find some work for the following winter.

Cheers.

Jim's a good man. He treats his instructors fair. Some people have even stayed with him and his wife for a short while until being able to find a place to live. From time to time he even takes his instructors out for dinner. Plus, you get a cool CFC vest!

How often do you hear this stuff about an employer?

It's a great deal for somebody looking to break into the industry.

Personally, I'd ask how many people are currently doing instructor ratings vs. the number to be hired for the cadet contract. Just to be sure you're in the running.

Also, if memory serves me, there were instructors around in the summer not flying with cadets, but part-time to fly with CFC's other students - don't be that person. :} You will only fly earily morning or late day, as the cadets consume the vast majority of CFC's summer agenda.

Let us know what you decide.
Good luck!
