Hey Horizon,

I will try and answer your questions. The working conditions at CJ
are not bad. Beneifits, start at date of hire i.e medical, passes etc...
Some airlines make you wait for six months. You're scheduled with
1-4 day pairings plus per-diems. We average 65-80 flying hrs per month
with 13 to 14 day's off per month. The pilot base is out of Halifax N.S, as far as living out of Montreal, I am not sure? You would need a crash pad in Halifax for work. If you want to live in Montreal during your day's off, that's up to you. The Canjet staff are a good bunch to work with, I have no regrets !! I hope this helps you.

Best of luck

I guess you missed the 7 page "Canjet Union" thread???? Or are you a minority(who likes and doesn't whine) there?

No peanuts, no upgrades for F/O's. Under paid Capts... LoL.. Their list goes on....

Simple facts....

There is a training contract ( unfortunately )

Most upgrades come from the F/O's ( 5 DE's I think )

Underpaid..yes, but in the last 36 months two $5000.00 pay increases
( we'll have to see if ALPA can do that in 36 months )

13 days off

decent overtime deal

good equipment

working conditions have improved a lot since last year

Best deal in the Maritimes!!

Oh yeah...don't make a career decision based on free peanuts!!!!!!!

I think it is safe to say that the only reason those raises came through was to fend off a minor exodus and appease those left behind.

Isn't that what all pay raises are for?

Studmuffin must be one of the 7% not for ALPA. Nice pink colored world that you live in. ALPA will keep all those things, improve some other things and help create stability at Canjet. If your happy now then you will only get happier with an ALPA contract.

Simple facts.....

I signed an ALPA card before most other pilots here...

My world isn't pink coloured...it's realistic coloured...

It's not about what ALPA will keep, ( we won't lose anything ), it's about can ALPA get a contract with a $10000 raise over 3 years....

I think ALPA may help us attract pilots...( I hope )

I'm not against ALPA, it's just I've heard everything out on the line from " we have to match WestJet " to " we have to have a contract in 6 months or less "....and those things are not going to happen.

It's good to see some of you encouraging another pilot to head this way. The peanuts issue seems to have blown over, and the pilots I've been speaking to are encouraged at the small changes that have been coming each day. I hear that this months schedules are decent and with the winter charters coming to an end, there should be some more weekends off coming. The new YYZ-YYT-YYZ direct flights start this week which will be good for business. I am well aware that not all of the problems are gone, but I think it's safe to say that everyone has settled down and people are getting on with business. With some luck, there will be more pilots sending resumes and the schedule will get even better.

Sorry, you cannot be based in YUL. The only base is YHZ. If there ever were another base, my guess is YYZ, based on the amount of flying we do out of there.

Good luck in what ever decision you make.

CYYZ seems to poke his nose in where it doesn't belong. Or there's no Star Trek conventions going on and he's really bored.
Just because there's a couple of complaints on this forum doesn't necessarily paint an accurate picture of how things are here. No peanuts, fine, anything on that trolly can't be good for you. BTW they've halted all DE hiring and more people are getting a shot at the left seat, so if you didn't get a call it means you're not ready!
Bitchin on this site is not going to help the negotiations that are coming up.

Having worked in ALPA exec positions I can tell you that ALPA 'self governs'. IE, you set up, elect, and run your house the way YOU want. It's up to the CanJet pilots and CanJet managers to get the relationship going in the right direction. Once you elect your MEC/LEC, they will go to a Leadership course in Herndon Virginia. There you take courses on communication, what to say, what not to say. It's all about the pitch... "our pilots need more time with their family's" rather than "We WANT 16 GDO's or we're going on strike".

ALPA has a lot of benefits IF run properly and with the right attitude in mind. Just take very seriously who you choose to have represent you; and encourage the right person to run if they are not thinking about it. There are many examples in Canada where the WRONG person gets elected and it's their mood when relaying the written word of current events and that can influence the enitre morale of your company.

I'm sure it won't be long before a lot of the issues at CanJet clean up, it will just seem like an eternity. In the mean time... we'll keep taking your pilots, they're great people 8)

You should tell that to half your pig head comrades in the other thread.... I'm not there and I don't complain.... Life is life... And next time you're with your co-pilot ask him if he's on Av and slap him on the head for true trolling, I just copy-paste, regurgitate all that is said by your peers....

oops..... I was about to book a trip on CJ with the other half to the "Rock", "Dark Island" or whatever you want to call it. Sounds like CJ isn't a happy place with its campers, could it be a JetsGo ending. Guess, I will have to wander over to the Air Canada page and place my bet there just to be safe. Old retired pukes like me gotta watch out for the scarce bucks. :?

There's no blood in the water. Just a bit of posturing that got out of hand. There was never any intention for the common folk to see that internal memo, let alone have it in the Globe. Regardless of what people think or feel, a contract is just a year away, give or take a few months. Everyone should just sit back relax and watch the show. Believe half of what you read and none of what you hear.
Oh and I hear they just lost another one.....

CanJet is no Jetgo as several former Jetsgo crew can attest to that. We will be around for a long time to come. Despite the few whiners on this forum most of the CanJet crew are professionals and strive to make this airline the best it can be.

I would not worry about booking a flight…..you will have a great flight :) .
