I call bullsh%t.

What you say about the memo explaining the upgrade process is true.

But...most of the FO's aren't ever scheduled to fly with anyone in a position to assess their suitability, (or lack thereof, as the case may be), for an upgrade. The only ones who get the upgrades are those favoured few in the "good books" of the ex-Air Atlantic crowd. So it's pure bs to claim "we had to go outside" when in fact in many cases ZERO effort has been made to evaluate those already working there.

"Lengthening the training program to be able to spend more time with f/o's before actually entering the upgrade program". That would be an excellent idea. Between the chronic lack of training capacity and the fact that the checkers mysteriously never seem to be scheduled on weekends, ANY time spent evaluating FO's would be an increase over what's happening now. Hence all the WJ interviews.

lol

I don't work there but it sure sounds like you do. As such, your condescension is wasted on me. But I have flown with several guys there, and I do find it bizarre that they're getting passed over.

You misunderstood what I said about the ex-Air Atlantic guys - I wasn't referring to the guys being upgraded, I was referring to the guys making the decisions. A very experienced, respected lot to be sure, no argument there. But they shouldn't be trying to sell "we just didn't have enough qualified guys internally" when really...how would they know? You say yourself there are only so many checkpilots to go around. So perhaps we could agree that is not "invective" but fact?

I seriously doubt your comments about some senior union guy remarking about the internal workings of a company undergoing a unionization process. ALPA is far too professional an organization to risk that sort of liability. And I have never had anything but respect for what I have seen of the way CanJet conducts its operations, for the record.

As far as the DE program being stopped, I think it's more because they don't pay anywhere near what it would take to attract suitable candidates, in the present job market. That is my opinion.

Thanks for the kind wishes, you be safe out there too!

Anyone else hear that rumour?

I heard EVAS doing a MEDEVAC to YAY the other day, guess they're really trying to diversify.

Wow... so much speculation.... PAL's going under... trouble for PAL....

PAL's got it's fingers in a lot of pots. Don't see anything happening to them soon.

PAL news:

Voisey's Bay Nickel Company Ltd. has awarded a ten year contract to Innu Mikun Airlines to continue service to the Voisey's Bay mine site. The contract is an extension to the existing five year deal. The flights feature a Dash-8 aircraft accompanied by Twin Otter service from coastal points throughout Labrador. Innu Mikun Airlines is a Labrador-based aboriginal airline operated by Provincial Airlines.

Do they still operate the Flying School?

Well more interesting news with PAL. From what I've been told there's alot of movement going on within the company. Apparently there are going to be upwards of 9 or more F/O's hired for the SAAB/Dash/Twin otter/citation/metro. Along with that seems like there are going to be about 7 or so upgrades for some of the F/O's that have been there a long time. A little to late I figure though... They lost alot of good people elsewhere. Seems like PAL is on the upswing????? Only time will tell....

The next question is wether or not they'll up pay to try and keep people around.

Nope.

And Good old buddy MachT.

You're pretty close. Dash and Saab guys are already in groundschool (from what I heard), Metro not determined yet, and Citation and Twotter internal posting closes Friday (assuming they haven't already picked their guys).

Also starting some ramp personnel in YDF.

Well some yes but they hired back most of the ones they laid off prior to the postings. Math shows there are new positions. Some guys left to go to Canjet and Jazz, among other places.
