Some differences for AME's in the East here
Well working here in China I've noticed a few differences in the way AME's are treated. For example the airline has a dormitory for the engineers to sleep when on duty and a staff canteen that serves some decent food, a full meal is under$1.00. A bus service is provided to take the employees home as the airport is generally a little further from the city 35km or further. Most of the airlines here strive for a ratio of 4-10 engineers per airplane and training is usually done by the manufacturer. These differences wouldn't really work in North America but at the end of the day the result is the same...a servicable aircraft. Yes they have same issues we all suffer, parts shortage and deadlines but they work hard. The job of an AME is the same around the world albeit we all suffer from low wages, crappy hours and the elements of nature at her worst. One day maybe the pay will be there but most likely not in my lifetime.

Isn't that the way they treat the entire populace. - regimented and programmed by the state?
You will work now, here is the transport , you will sleep now, here is the bed, you will eat now, here is a hand full of rice - you fail - you will be gone to a collective farm.
I don't know we are in the dark here - give us some of the details of your experiance there.

FreaKy_DeaKy I don't have the exact numbers but there is alot of activity in the aviation business over here. Both Airbus & Boeing have confirmed orders for 300 new aircraft (150 each). Embraer set up shop in China in 2002 with an assembly line for the ERJ145 Family in Harbin. I know of 4 new privately owned airlines in China and understand there is more waiting for government approvals.
Political differences aside, the whole intent was to share the plain and simple points that the AME's here work the same as we do. They are paid a salary to pay for the bowl of rice and the transport. "They fail" and possibly face a suspension or being fired.PITA wrote:Isn't that the way they treat the entire populace. - regimented and programmed by the state?
You make this sound as if they are all brainwashed. Are we not brainwashed in thinking we are free to choose?

The interesting point was the dormitory. 90% of the places I have ever worked at never condoned sleeping on the job during the slow times.
Pay is low for the local Engineers. Average monthly income $500.00cdn. I'm here in a position representing a manufacturer so my pay is different. Having said that though alot of things are cheaper, 24 beer (excellent quality local brew) $6.00 and a carton of smokes $8.00, American brands are $13.00. Oh yeah the price of gas is 60 cents a liter. So the cost of living is much lower along with the wages.
No foreigners working on the aircraft though, you have to have a CAAC License. There are a few pilots but even they have a tough time getting CAAC Licenses.

Did you ever go to the camp with Chinaman and woke up in the morning with ....Dude, just came back from 2,5 weeks in cuba awesome.
Anyway, all things that you mentioned are same like Europe, plus in Europe, Company provide all tools. Why I have to spend over $30K to have rights to make money....Anyway, if we will protect eachother like pilots, we will have better living...
