Transponder codes
Just wondering how they are assigned, how does the code become usable agin ect...? Does each FIR handle there own code assignments or is it a Canada wide deal?
Hey bubbles, get me some of those dressed all over chips!
Each FIR is assigned a block of internal codes, and a block of external codes. Internal codes are assigned to aircraft that are going to stay within the FIR, external codes if they are not.
When an aircraft lands, coasts off radar, or leaves the FIR a timer starts and after a pre-defined period of time (or when the controller manually deletes the flight plan in the system) the code becomes usable again.
