Looks like they have a good screening process for the moderators, or maybe this one slipped through
There are several factors that play into the decision to add a destination.
Man power, plane availability, how it fits if at all into your schedule and bodies in the back.
I know CanJet tried YSJ and they may have done it seasonal, Jetsgo did it in the summer months and it was a hard sell with some good days but not great ones.
The trick is obviously to turn money into money and in this business it is especially hard to do.

LCC's traditionally have one aircraft size and have to think long and hard before launching in to a new market. It's more reliant on building a route with population size rather than building with an RJ like a Legacy carrier can. Using YLW as an example, it's full in every direction it flies to now. That's 10 years after the route started and we're now just hearing rumors about YKA starting up. If Kamloops starts up this year it will have less impact of fragmenting the YLW market than it could have in previous years. I'd assume when YQM and YHZ are strong enough and fly to mulitple destinations you'll see a smaller market be considered like YSJ and maybe Freddie in the same loop.

this is simple...

saint john and fredericton are about 90 min drive to moncton. there aren't enough people in NB to fill a 737 at both airports, plus NB government decided a while ago to pour money into moncton because of its proximity to p.e.i., hence in the middle of ysj, yfc and yyg. i dont think westjet thought there would be enough traffic a few years ago to warrant service to p.e.i., but now that they do, adding another city inside NB is a long way away...they have enough as it is with hali, moncton and now p.e.i.

its a nice drive to moncton and yqm is a nice, clean airport with ample parking. other people across canada have much farther to go for service.... ;)

If WJ starts flying 737's into Saint John then I hope they start flying them into Churchill too!

A couple of things factor into the decision. Market size, yield, flow opportunities and revenue opportunities for the aircraft. Assuming the fleet remains static, you'd have to pull an airplane off of exisiting flying that, apparently, gives better results that operating into Saint John. Opportunity cost is the term. Pulling a machine off of existing flying affects the market currently served.

WestJet flies charters into YFC on behalf of AT, which is surprising enough considering there is already 3 of them out of Moncton, well only one this year, two of which went to CanJet.

That's the way to do it. One customer who pays up front for the airplane and assumes all the risk of filling it and making money.
