Well that's not bad then, $30,000 is definetely more affordable then $35,000 J/K...is Canjet really losing that many people where they need this kind of promissary note? That, and do they still set their minimum time at 5000 hours as being a firm number? I've heard they'll hire people with a little bit less as well.
$30,000 is an guess-timate. What people are signing for these days is "the actual cost of training" which may even be less than than 30k.
Does anybody know what the new hires actually signed up for??
Oh and 737 flyer, those comments sound awfully like someone whose not a pilot or management. Call it bitching and whinning all you want or WAAAA as you like to put it, the fact of the matter is we have to lowest standard working conditions for a 737 or larger operation. Granted, things are improving but we all have a long way to go. I haven't heard one pilot NOT ever bring up one of those WAAAAA's you mentioned. You're obviously not in touch with the concerns of the pilot or FA group. And I'll reemphasize that you don't have to log on to this site if you don't want hear it.
Good comeback post pod'cjer

Sorry, but your very basic, first-Googled literal definition is NOT what I was referring to by the term "paternalistic". When used in most common journalistic contexts it is not considered a flattering term, and has reference to an overbearing, "father-knows-best" type of attitude. Which I felt pervaded the post I was referencing, and does seem to exist at CanJet.
Paternalism refers usually to an attitude or a policy stemming from the hierarchic pattern of a family based on patriarchy, that is, there is a figurehead (the father, pater in Latin) that makes decisions on behalf of others (the "children") for their own good, even if this is contrary to their opinions.
It is implied that the fatherly figure is wiser than and acts in the best interest of its protected figures. The term is used derogatorily to stigmatise attitudes or political systems that seem to deprive individuals of freedom, only nominally serving their interests, while in fact pursuing another agenda.
heard we just lost another great guy...Mikey O best of luck dude, your a great guy and you'll be missed...hope we can still have a few beers and a few laughs....take care and all the best....
some only had 11 days off, not a good way to keep pilots there are still more interviews out west yet. its gonna be an interesting summer if this trend keeps up. its too bad, it was starting to look up there for a while.
I'd gladly try to help fill in the void of not enough pilots All I need to do is fly another 820 hours, then I'll be good to go That should only take me about 2 1/2 years, haha....oh well, maybe one day

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
hey confuzed, if you only need 820 more hrs. you should apply anyway, there have been a lot of times pilots have been hired with less than 5000 hrs. All right, so we are now certified, lets get the ball rolling on a contract. It seems like things have really slowed down, I know contracts can take a while to negotiate, but we can at least get started can't we?

Well, I've submitted my resume a few times in the last few months and nothing yet. Maybe I'll get lucky one day and get a call, but for now I'll just keep plugging away and go from there.

Well said improvedclimb. Things are improving and ALPA will make us all stronger. Might I point out that the negative posts have been declining which shows the improving attitude of the pilot group towards the company.
