757 escorted by CC-130?
What "assistance" was the CC-130 tasked to provide?

Not much detail in that story, but if ATC notifies the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) of an airliner that has a red page emergency, RCC almost always lauches the standby SAR Herc (or Buf) and helicopter.EI-EIO wrote:What "assistance" was the CC-130 tasked to provide?
Honestly, it's not so much rendering "assistance," as it is getting a head-start to a possible crash site...
Yeah, ready to send Johnny Canuck over on a wire like in Harrison Ford's Air Force One movie!EI-EIO wrote:...anyone would think the CF had 130s doing QRA!
Usually, in similar situations, the SAR aicraft is stood-down shortly after airborne, or even before taxi, when the situation is resolved.
What I don't understand is how an aircraft out of Dorval turns around near Quebec City with an emergency, and transits to Toronto. I guess it had something to do with company logistics, but it wasn't exactly the Sioux City hydraulic-failure situation, eh?
Despite all the comms available these days, it may have been poor human communication between the cockpit and ATC that resulted in the Herc "escort mission."
Who knows? (retorical question, no response necessary unless you do know. mileage varies. do not use underwater)
