Dream Job
What is your dream job? Not what are your options now or down the road. What (and where) would you do if you could? Doesnt have to be flying either.
Mine is 777 Capt based in Calgary for a stable major international carrier. Work maybe 13 days a month. Enough to enjoy it, not too much to hate it. Enough time off to do anything you want. Fly worldwide. Good people. Good pay. Limited politics. I know it will never happen just like this, but it's still nice to think about.

And so jet-lagged you will spend the other days in the month a drooling Zombie. The radiation you absorb in an 8-hour flight is like a full-body x-ray. Buy yourself a lead beanie (or one of those aprons they drape on you when you get dental x-rays).
Why do you think the pay is 'better' on heavies?

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

Dream job? Pretty much where I am at now. Work 20 days a month home 90% of the nights. I make decent money, go home to my affordable house and still can have a few nights out. Almost got caught in the cycle of constantly chasing the major's. Living in the expensive places and making peanuts compared to the cost of living and always the threat of layoffs. No thanks.

Never ever give up --- up to a point, right?
I dream about flying an airplane cool enough that it impresses the girls at the bar. Flying it to locations where the girls in the bar are hot. Oh ya and of making enough money to buy those girls drinks.
So far I’m 0 for 3.

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re a pilot.

"Doing occaisional charters in my Beneteau 49 throughout French Polynesia.
If I didn't like the pax, I would just drop them off on an island of my choice.
Now..I just have to figure out how to get that boat...."
Freakin brilliant.
And I could deff. get into that Chalks thing.

what are u basing your information about the radiation?
Reseach shows that the chances of a person getting ANY form of cancer in their lifetime is around 23%. Research shows that a person flying longhaul for 25-30yrs increases their chances by 0.8%
So u have better chance of being hit by a car or by a baggage cart when doing the walkaround on the aeroplane (bastards almost hit me one night in China, i think they believe the fluro-yellow vest is a target!!)
Its different strokes for different folks, what one person dream job is is right for THEM only. All that matters is that the individual is happy doing what they are doing and enjoy the life they have chosen for them selves.
Not everyone chases the dream of the $$, my thoughts (and this is just me) lifestyle is the biggie when it comes to a dream job. Sure u need money to survive, but how much is up to each person. Being home everynight appeals to some people, jetsetting across the world (with the associated jetlag) is what does it for others.
I love the company that i work for, great rosters, great destinations, provides a comfortable life for myself and my family. Yes i spend time away from home, up to 12 days at a time, but iam usually home for a long time between trips as well.
Be happy in what you do and enjoy!!
