Heard this over teh radio many years back. I was taxiing out getting ready to depart off of 33 at London, had checked the approach and was just about to call for clearance.
"London Tower GABC, short final 33 full stop"
"GABC London Tower, negative visual contact, pull up go around"
This was a severe clear day. So I called up, took off. There where two repeats of the same exchange, and then:
"GABC, negative visual, pull up go around"
"London Tower, LOOK OUT YOUR WINDOW! I'M RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!"
"GABC, look down into the centre of the runway pattern, do you see a big white half finished radar dome?"
"....... uhhh....negative"
"GABC, that's because you are over Waterloo-Wellignton, 25 miles NE of me. Their frequency is 125.00. I think they want to talk to you"

While building time for a commercial licence I planned a flight from YYC to Boundary Bay. Called them 10 miles out, got the winds, altimeter and all that good stuff and was told to enter a downwind pattern..... about the time I called downwind it occured to me; shouldn't there be some water or a "Bay" here at Boundary Bay? Yes, there is no significant body of water at Abbottsford. Next transmission went something along the lines of "got a piece of paper and a pencil? Abbottsford tower would like to talk to you after you land.
Although it is a pretty big SNAFU to land an Airbus full of passengers at the wrong airport, I have seen many airports in close proximity (under 5 miles apart) with simular runway configs..... definately leaves some egg on the face.

Anyone remember the woman, a few years back that with the help of some coaching from Brampton Unicom, landed on RWY 33 ... at yyz?
Of course, Transport didn't do whack her. If it was a guy that made the mistake, they would have yanked his licence for a year. Typical politically-correct discrimination.

Crap happens, I agree. The hard part for me to swallow is how they did it in an Airbus. All the info is on the screens. Plus their routing should be all in the FMS. Once assigned their runway they should have selected it and the autopilot would have steered them to it. The guys I knew at Air Can rarely ever hand flew them, all computer.
Unless I am missing something here?

It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.
