Chilliwack airport CYCW
I took the wife and some family members on a trip to the "wheel and wing" show at Abbotsford airport then went to Chilliwack airport for dessert. Landed at Chilliwack on runway 24, or is it 25?, opened the windows and was greeted with an aweful smell. It was very very potent and makes the eyes water. This was like concentrated cow manure smell. It seems this truck dragging a green tank on wheels was squirting what was probably liquid cow manure all around the airport grounds along the runway and apron. Trying to eat pie and coffee on the outdoor patio at the restaurant was an aweful experience. Why would they do this on a hot day in the summer? Just my rant.

Money and greed.
You can rest assured that the proprietors of the resturant had no say in this matter.
The airport manager , who leases the land to a farmer, should pay more attention to local permanent businesses.
I am pissed off too and I will go see him.

Thanks Duke. Chilliwack airport is a very nice place to fly into and have lunch and dessert. It seems a pity that someone would do that, although when money and greed are a motivator this isn't so surprising. I can understand the need to fertilize, its just that maybe a hot Saturday afternoon near a restaurant might not be the best time. At least I got to see the DH Dove again

Hey Dex
I know the owner of the Dove and was just talking to him the other day ... quite a character. He was busted for flying without a licence and now works as a mechanic. The aircraft is getting derelict but it just keeps resurfacing. I would sure like to fly it once I was satisfied it was airworthy.
The Dove is actually a great airplane and I saw lots in Australia years ago.
Wallypilot ... you still over in Africa?
A young local pilot from YCW (flew here for ASW) was on that Sanders Caravan job in Saudia Arabia when all that bombing/hostage affair started and they all had to flee to Bahrain. I hope your surroundings are more enjoyable.
Anyhow , I'll get right on to that stink problem tomorrow.

. and Pinkus
I'll make this a sort of lesson for you.
Air Southwest don't have a "backer" but are an intergrel part of a large construction company. I have seen them operate a Navajo and then a Cheyenne and a Chieftain. Now they have two C206 and a C182. ASW wisely operate whatever aircraft suits it's needs at the time.
They are VERY busy at the moment with fire patrols , other forestry work and company business. The construction company may have work in Eastern BC and if it comes to fruition they will operate a pressurized aircraft again.
And no .. , they flew way more than what you guess.
And yes , they did pay their pilots VERY well to wash and polish their airplanes. They do so with pride and keen-ness. Their standards are to be admired.
And furthermore , the chief there is just as happy flying the 206 as he was in the Cheyenne..... pay is the same.
Your negativity is therefore misdirected.

Ahhh Coffee and Pie in CHilliwack, takes me back to the good old' days flying around the fraser valley. Mind you they weren't all that long ago.
So I have a question, what is the story that beautiful old dove? who owns it? is she airworthy? are there plans to ever get it flying again?
As for Air Southwest, I always heard they were a great company to fly for, in fact if the opportunity presented itself I would love to fly for them. Are they still taking those machines into Tipella? I used to love going in there!
