Westex - bankruptcy protection?

Post by Swamp Donkey »

Anybody heard the rumor that Westex has filed for protection from it's creditors?

I haven't heard that, but the bank does own 48% of the company. I heard that the F-27's were on the chopping block and something about the Lears. They (the Lears) are doing alright - but the bank wanted to separate them from the rest of the operation (or something along those lines)

I'm sure someone will chime in with some hard facts.

Apparently, they have stopped thier passenger service to Tofino. Most, if not all the main resorts in the Tofino / Ucluelet area use NVA/SBA, and I guess they were not able to attract the local market.

NVA would be North Vancouver Air, I don't know who SBA is.

Well, it appears to be true. Check out their website under "news" and it talks about it all. Too Bad. I bet the BC government is real happy about giving all of the medivac contracts to one company.

YES.

NVA is North Van Air
SBA is Sonic Blue Airways
And RXX is Regency Express

they are all under the same shitumbrella.

But, about westex, that is really too bad. My heart goes out to all the guys with jobs on the line.

A least one F-27, the KA350, and at least one metro (possibly two) are on their way out. One Lear is broken more often than it's fixed and there is no money for parts. Doesn't sound to good right now.

Yes, and the rumour mill has been saying for 10 years that Westex is belly up.. Yet they have survived. Don't count them out yet. Their CEO is a smart man and I sure wouldn't put my money on their demise just yet!!

I'm just curious, boeingboy, do you work for this company or something? You seem to know an awful lot about them, or think you do...

I've heard about some of the bad news, but I haven't heard of planes disappearing yet.

Are they still looking for rampees? :P

I hope the guys at Westex are able to find more work if they go belly up. I have many freinds flying there, so for their sake I hope they pull through.

No, i work for a website. http://www.glatter.com

For the record. If you don't work for free, you are paying to work. Which after that lawsuit, you are lucky to do.

Here's what I was told by a Westex employee; The "bank" is currently majority shareholder in the company. DO is trying to buy back controlling interest in the company, and is currently in court.
One F27 is being worked on, backed by DO personally, in preparation for a contract which the bank is not interested in. Another F27 is still doing the daily run south of the border, with 2 metro's covering the late nite Alberta runs.
The general consensus among the staff is that the "bank" wants to get rid of cargo completly and concentrate on the medivac service.
The Lears have been taxing on the company due to snags and lack of funds for parts. No mention of the 350, or any medivac A/C are on the way out.
Obviously, people there are worried. They seem to feel they are being lied to(bank says they want to keep cargo) and that many will be kicked aside in 60 days.
I sincerly hope it works out for them one way or another.

RXXguy,

Scabber just ripped you apart. Working for free isnt so bad man, it always looks good to have volunteer time when submitting a resume. Every employer likes to see someone who is willing to risk life and limb for a company that doesnt reward. Are you even in the left seat yet, or are you still not allowed into the office?

Keep fighting the good fight Rxxman... everyone loves an ex regency guy.

RXXGUY, please tell me your name is just a joke to piss people off, it almost sounds like your just being a dick to stir the pot. And your little  face thing about not working for free. give me a break how many months of whoreing yourself out did it take before you were deamed sutible to make as much as the kid at Burger King to drive a hoe around. You'll understand what were all talking about when your resume gets deleted and shreded all over this country by professional companies. Who understand that to be a pilot isnt just about Air Time and about the Aprenticeship that Flying really is, This starts out chucking bags/fueling planes wrenching and learning the business. Its unfortunate to hear about Westex being put in this position, as far as atracting the Tofino market all other airlines pull out because when a company fails to pay its crews and maintenance a respectable company can not fairly compete.

Hey Shleb, "subterainian River!"
