You may be right Troubleshot, maybe the industry wage is ready to go up. I am not sure someone will ever be able to pull into Voyageur and get $30/hr though. Unless TC mandates that no one except licenced techs can work on aircraft. Then things would change.

As far as pilots thats a whole other topic. Airline pilots are the most greedy, nasty group of people I have come across. The odd thing is there is no other group of people in the last 50 years where their jobs have become drastically easier. The avionics business was created and driven towards reducing pilot workloads and f@ck ups. In other aspects of industry automation has replaced the worker altogether. This applies to airline pilots only of course. Helicopter pilots are a whole different story, to start they actually fly there machines!! A guy watching a 777 fly him around and then land and apply the brakes isn't even a pilot. A guy picking up a load of logs on a 300ft long line is definitely a pilot.

It became open season with the "beaten by your mother as a child comment". Otherwise gli, I think you know I don't generally start off with shit like that. Not saying I have'nt ended up there though, as is evident.

Anyway, I think both of you make valid points, but I tend to side more with troubleshot.
I know we're not classified as engineers(this was discussed here)in the classic sense, but like troubleshot notes, we can/do carry an awful lot of responsibility. So I do think we are worth more than a auto mechanic, and definetly more than the other trades I regularly mention. An AME's signature is required in the logbook to release it. Everyone else at the most has to sign an invoice, if that. Yet I know they make as much, and generally more.
If it sounds like Im obsessed with money Im not. Im obsessesed with bringing on a wage for AME's that is reflective of they take on in terms of liability, investment of time, and sacrifices in lifestyle. I actually hold out for what I want, and I turn down a decent amount of offers, because believe it or not, I have a good rep in aviation.
Any other trade, or even fast food joints, steps up the game when they want quality people, and can't find them, except aviation(Canada). So if I can make people aware of what places are offering beforehand, maybe it will help induce some change. Then again, maybe Im just overly optimistic, but the least I can do is provide some personal info, good or bad. I don't make up what i post, whether people like it or not.

So to end, our current general wage situation in Canada is a joke and seriously needs to be improved. Contract rates are ok to good, depending on the perks. I think they're due also for an adjustment upward, but acceptable at the moment.
Overseas looks good on paper, but I don't have personal experience to draw upon to comment.

Well V.V. I never once said anything about my wage being a problem or my job. So I'm not quiet sure what you want me to take note on or work on????

As for Gli & Troubleshoot I have to kinda agree with both of you if thats possible. Both brought forward excellent debates on low ame wages. And yes its sad to say but for today I do agree with what Pat Richards as well. Just why does it always seem like you need to always..... always..... always.... have the last word of a post no matter what??

Is that the issue? The closing credits?. Doing a quick scan of my previous posts' seems to show, more often than not, me replying to someone. If they don't respond, well I guess that makes me the final word. There's many posts where im far from the end.

Holy Squat, Batman!

I've just had the wildest sense of deja vu!

It's obvious the whole wage thing is such a bitter point for all of us. Now I have already done my rants about this and similar topics which are all interelated, so I'll just say : search out the various (and surprisingly few) posts and you will see that this industry is truly circling the drain and we are along for the ride IF we CHOOSE to do so.

It's all about choices people, like it, love it, or leave it.

wage is allways a sore issue with everyone. the fact that they pay less than average is a no brainer! they are in north bay, no one wants to move there, and the people there, don't want to leave. they have a captive audience. why pay more? there is a fresh batch of eager college kids every few months to fill the floor.
