Where were you on September 11th 2001?

I worked the night shift till six a.m. so I was sleeping when it happened. I woke up, alone at home, and turned on the tv. Think I was watching replays of the Tower burning and falling because I think the towers already fell by 12 noon. Anyway I had to go write a test/exercise that afternoon which was alittle messed up because I felt scared or something. They evacuated the Tall buildings in downtown Winnipeg that day, where I was.

I was in Tamworth NSW Auatralia. Picked up one of my students who needed a lift and he told me about an airplane crash in New York.
We all watched the days events unfold on the telly. No classwork that day!!!
Between the Ansett Airline failure and 9/11 the aviation industry in Oz imploded. My wife and I would fly back to YVR using C3 - advanced bookings gave us about $1000.00 cdn return tickets. After C3 expired it cost us $1400.00 one way to get back to YVR a year later.
3 weeks after 9/11 had to return to YYC - and my father passed away the end of October - he was a bomber pilot - RCAF attached to the RAF during WWII - he had some choice language about the event that I would not care to repeat
I remember a great many days of public significance like:
JFK
Tenerife
Orly
Opollo 13
Elvis
John Lennon
Princess Di
way too many recent aviation disasters.
and an even greater many dates of private significance.
Throughout this thread and many others the concept of "Our People" - both in this industry and outside of the industry being the most important element in our lives shines clearly. Yes it is a sad expression on our hectic lifestyle that it takes something of this magnitude to bring out the best in all of us and to literally shock us into a moment of reflective silence. The amazing thing is that for the majority of us - it is back to the business of life shortly thereafter. Humans are truly a most resiliant brand of creature.

This is sort of eerie. Most of us are familiar with WingDings and how some people spend time trying to associate certain words with their wingding equivalents.
"Ground Zero" was apparently at 33 feet ASL. This could be stated as "33 QNH". Do a wingding conversion on that. Eerie huh?

I was sitting in class, and one of my friends came in late. He had been watching CNN, and told everyone what happened. The prof dismissed the class. The director of the school addressed everyone at noon that day. What a horrible day...never forget.
"Yeah. There is a problem. You...because you're dangerous. You're dangerous and foolish - and that makes you dangerous! Now, let's cut the...crap. We've got a plane to fly. Let's try to be on time, okay?"

Hello again...let's continue this thread in honour of those that died 5 years ago at the hands of religious fanatics.
Whether if it were Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish or Muslim…no one should have to die like animals for these made-up beliefs called 'religion'…no one.
Keep the peace.

THe first plane strike, still in bed, then the second one watchin the tube ready for school.. Watched the towers fall then went to school (grade 10).
Later that day got evacuated, along with most of YXY as a report of a hijacked 747 was landing here, which turned out to be a misunderstanding.. but there were snipers all over the airport and everything was shutdown in town.
Wayy up here too. That day Two 747's landed on our 9700' runway, the second and third to ever land here.
*edit* No 747's since that day either, who knows if we will see another up here.

Flying is the second greatest thrill in life... landing is the first.

Briefing a TC examiner advanced stalls at the YKZ TC office. Was ignoring the office staffs' chatter about a plane hitting the first tower. Just assumed it was a lost Cessna in bad weather until we walked out to the aircraft and the examiner told me it was a 767. Airspace was closed as we taxied out for the air portion.

My girlfriend woke me up after the first plane hit the towers before I had to go to class. I then saw the footage of the second plane.
I will always remember sitting in my microbiology class thinking how this world is going to change after this day and will never be the same.

I was on the bus heading to school (grade 10). One of my pals told me while listening to the radio on headphones.
I recall watching it on TV for the rest of the day. I remember it was right around that time I decided I wanted to become a pilot (coincidence). Until then I was thinking of ATC.

I was visiting my parents..having a nice sleep in when my parents knocked on the bedroom door...asking "come out and watch the TV...something is happening" I asked, where? She replied.."everywhere"!
I jump out of bed and proceeded to watch the news for the next 8 hours or so...Unbelievable! I had just finished my first recurrent on the 757 for Canada 3000 and never thought that that day was the end of my job..
I had a buddy going to position on the runway in Toronto when they closed the airspace and they had to taxi back to the gate.
I feel for all the people that were directly affected by this...everyone!
