Porter Airlines
So they say commencing service Fall 2006, but they only have one airplane, and they've offcially announced only one destination.
So what's up? Are they actually going to announce anything at all?
There are numerous CanJet routes that a Dash-8 Q400 would fit perfectly down east IE
YYZ-YQM-YYT / YHZ-YDF / YHZ-YYT etc etc, especially for the price they could offer.
Anyone here applied for a job with them yet? I know Porter sent an email which was sent to every CanJet base with Job offerings for just about every position within an airline just days before CanJet actually finished up.

Porter has been running training flights into Timmins regularly during the month of Sept. They come in under civil Ident, (GLQB) from Sudbury(YSB) and North Bay (YYB). and fly out to those two plus the Sault (YAM).
When we queried them as to there planned provision of services to airports in the northern Ont region, they said they were concentrating on the Toronto(YTZ) Ottawa (YOW) Montreal (YUL) Corridor.
They fly into here (YTS) and dont shut down and are looking for clearance again after about 8-10 min. on the ground. The Amusing thing is that they usually hold of Jazz well they are waiting for their clearance back to pearson and, so Jazz is holding short on Taxi B and get to sit in their old beat up planes and watch these brand new DH8D's, and a few times they have actually held them up when they had a Flow time HA!
Anyways I heard they had bought 10 aircraft and had options on 10 more? Also heard through the rumor mill that the Captains made 90K/year and had to put up a 22k Training bond and a 3K uniform bond?
Anyways that is all I have heard and for my two cents a dash 8 is a dash 8 is a dash 8, but the 400's sure look nicer

Just to set the record straight. There is no training or uniform 'bond' (no one pays or takes out a loan).
And the captains do not make 90k.
Yes, YOW and YUL will be the 1st destinations.
And yes, we are definitely going to launch and very excited to start!
-cheers
ps. oh yeah, the Q400 is much more than just another DHC-8

BTW it's not a training bond so you dont have to put up any money. It's a prorated promissory note you sign making you liable for 20K (+3k uniform, also prorated) if you choose to leave before 24 months. Speaking of Jetsgo, what happens if the airline goes tits up before the 24 months is up? Are you personally liable to a 3rd party creditor for the $25k if the airline folds? It's a prorated promissory note you sign making you liable ... if you choose to leave before 24 months
