Skyservice Interview
Any idea what they ask or are looking for in a Skyservice interview.
Re: Skyservice Interview
I think they ask um...questions!Jetette wrote:Any idea what they ask or are looking for in a Skyservice interview.
They are looking for...answers??

Sorry, couldn't resist.

SSV is really quite straight forward. There are no bizarre or out of the ordinary questions. They are looking for a fit in experience and personality so if you have been called, your experience has been deemed acceptable and you are half way there.
Good luck!

It will be the standard type of decision making questions. Ask you about your career etc emergencies youve had, how would you handle situation type questions. Its a straight forward airline interview. I would suggest knowing something about the company and the deployement they do in the summer. Aircraft types etc. It is a very general interview just come prepared. Be used to answering the questions before you come in front of the mirror would be a good idea. There are 2 interviews first one is the heart of the get to know you part and will be a panel interview lots of questions. They will put you in a pool based on a grading marking system. Depending how you score will determine your place in the pool. Then you will be called for a second interview with senior management.
I think the hiring right now will be for the boeing side but this can change. The expansion is all for the boeing side based in YQB from what I can gather from the press releases.
Hope this helps.

I got a call (message actually) from Skyservice HR...haven't actually talked to them yet, but I'm hoping it is an invite for an interview. Looks like the new base in YQB is the reason for the interviews, I'll have to work on my parlez a bit if I am lucky I guess!
Anyone know what the current starting salary is there...I'm thinking Boeing...maybe any info on upgrade times as well? Feel free to Post me (or PM if you want to remain 007 like.)
Best of luck,

Info
Hope I can help you out with your questions.
The starting pay is frozen right now as our contract has just ended at 61k for FO. This is the base salary. You will do much more than that I can assure you. The salary is the same for both types airbus or boeing so it doesn't change.
Upgrades. If you are looking for a fast one then you better wait for a different airline to call as it is slow going. Slow in the country as a whole.
Good luck on your interview and yes it would be for the YQB base expansion I am guessing also which is looking like it will only be 757 for now. But you never know it could also be for YYZ base. You will be frozen to base and type for a couple years I would say for sure.
I am curious as to your experience lvl TT and types flown, Just curious PM me if you want to keep it 007.

Re: ...
Exactly the same except we also fly for their airlines as crew members not under wet leases with airplanes. So like sunwing but a bit different. We swap crews to maxmize crew ability without having to layoff. There busy season in UK is the summer and ours is the winter so this is why the program works.tbone wrote:What is the summer deployment? is it sort of like the sunwing deal (i.e. they take the planes to the U.K. and fly them there....
thanks for the info,.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I just spoke to Visu on the phone and it looks like they are trying to get some interviews sorted out for this week in YYZ. A bit of short notice timewise but that is the way it goes in this biz. I hope to hear back from her today.
I am a furloughed Canjet pilot with 5800TT 1300+ Jet and 650 on the 737-500 as an F/O. I am currently visiting my fiance in the Arctic (Frobisher Bay) and I wasn't really expecting to get any calls for interviews until next month after the dust settled from sending out resumes. It is going cost a bit for me to get down there and back to Halifax so I would appreciate any info you had on the subject.
Is there a bond and if so for how long? The upgrade thing dosen't worry me too much as long as the company treats you well (and from what I hear that is true for SSV) What is the schedule like...any multiple days off to be had. Is it a bid system?
What are your thoughts on if speaking French will be the biggest factor for this job? (I guess I mean would it be French in the cockpit / operation etc.?) Are there other French speaking pilots with SSV that would want to be in YQB?
I was asked if I spoke French and although I may be able to tramp around Paris and order Beer there, I hardly consider myself Bilang. It would take some work, and I am not worried about that. The more important issue for me is if I were to get a base there, my soon to be wife may not be able to find a job being about as fluent as I am.
There seem to be a bit of activity out there in the job market and I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I also don't want to spend alot of money interviewing for a basing that may not be right for me.
Looking forward to your insight,
Flyer

As for the interview well its really your choice. In my opinion if you turn the interview down I will bet that will be the last time you will be offered it. My opinion of course. But they will give you available days and times to be flexible so I would not worry. I would spend the money on the ticket. This is the best place to work in my opinion however everyone will say that about their own airline.
You will have a commitment of 2 years bond. No cash out of your pocket more of a commitment from you to stay and no bail after you get your 757/767 rating to Asia or something. Its prorated at $25000. This number can change but was what was being quoted last year.
The schedule is good. The YQB schedule is on the maestro-vacances website its in french but it appears that since its only 1 airplane it will be mostly turns except for the European program the want to operate next year you will be away. Long haul will be long haul.
As far as your basing in YQB. Their are worse places to be. YFB for example no offence but no comparison lol. Its up to you about the interview costs. You have to look at your future and decide that I guess to me its a no brainer there are no guarentees unfortunately about a job as I imaging they will interview 100 or so for 10 jobs so about 1 in 10 odds is my guess but only a guess.
YQB is a very touristy area of Canada with allot of American and European tourists. They will need english people just might be harder to find a job.
I am curious about what you choose to do so post back and let us know.
I am sure you will see many of your ex co-workers at your interview also no doubt. As jet time is rare these days in Canada.
Good luck tough decisions lie ahead for you.

B757FO,
Thanks again for the input. I know that anyone out there looking at an interview with SSV is finding your info well worth the read.
From one YFB'er to another I certainly agree that you don't get many second chances in this bussiness. My comments about not wanting to spend mony for nothing were only stemming from the $1000 buck one way ticket I was going to have to shell out for the short notice AND the fact that I was leaving my girl and not going to get to see until Christmas because it is too expensive to travel up here without a pass (as you well know!)
I am very excited to have been offered an interview on Monday in YYZ which I will be attending. This gives me a bit more time to coordinate travel and do some prepwork. I think it would be fantastic to live in YQB, I used to live in the north for 4 years, even have a house here, so I know that YQB would be a great spot to live.
I have a few more nights to enjoy Iqaluit, Ventures and the Legion, the Store House (unfortuntely the Zoo closed) and of course the Elk's! Getting a bit cool here now but its been nice to come up for a visit!
All the best and I hope to get to buy you a beer someday on a layover!

Hey B757FO
How are things going in the contract talks at SSV so far. My understanding is that SSV is still trying to figue out who is needed and where before they can make offers to new hires which may have something to do with the new contracts. I was told on Friday I would get a call on Monday but still haven't heard how I did. Any thoughts?

Not sure about the contract negotiations. These things usually dont get solved as you know very fast. The contract will not be ratified for a long while as it has to be voted on so the new hires will be hired long before the contract is agreed upon.
They must be gearing up for the hiring I would think with course dates around the corner. Crew requirements change daily I am sure so if your phone call was pushed back a few days dont worry. They probably told you more on friday than we know here about hiring numbers as the info we see is out dated the minute it is released. Dont sweat the phone call thing as there are no courses running right now but looks like might be 2 courses this month. As for the numbers your guess is as good as mine.
I would guess that the courses will be for both YYZ and YQB bases.
Good luck. Sorry I cant help more.

Hey All,
I have been given good news today! Got a call from SSV with an offer for the A320 in YYZ this afternoon. Came as a bit of a surprise since I was told I didn't make the cut last week (but I was told that I was number 1 on the short list). I'm in by the skin of my teeth but I'm in.
Just before the call I got an email for an interview with CAL in Taipei...gonna let that one go for now!
Thanks,
Fllyer
