bridge, no bridge, what's the dif?
Just wondering what the deal with T.O.'s Island Airport is? Got an e-mail from aerotraining regarding saving the airport by not allowing a proposal to go through that would ban building a bridge. What difference would this make, I read the proposal don't really understand what a bridge would do.
Me personally I would like to see the airport become the equivalent of Chicago's lake front airport, Meigs Field. Keep it operational and make it into a high class park/airport for the richy rich tourists or lowly pilots to travel to toronto by. Building a bridge allows unregulated traffic flow and makes it into any other airport/parking lot. Having a ferry offers that seclusion from the rest of the city like the yacht club. If you really want another dirty training field then push for somewhere like Buttonville to keep their access unlimited.

That sucks dude, didn't even hear about it. I was planning a flight there in a couple of months, thanks for the heads up. What happend to all the planes that were stranded on the field? I was there a couple months ago... too hazy to see the field from the Sears tower. Woulda been quite the shock to see it all ripped up like that.
Build the bridge. Its a beautiful airport with a beautiful view. To bad more people couldn't see the approach into YTZ and sunset with the CN tower and Downtown core all lit up. With a bridge it becomes more convinient, therefore accessable to our fast paced, won't wait for the ferry society.
Just my two cents!

Geeze I wish you would change that option for ride a ferry we have too many of those types in Toronto now!

Meigs was close years ago...
When the mayer got a bulldozer and tear it up!
But yes a brige will be a reliver airport for YYZ that people would use it to go downtown (Buttonville is too far) and will generate money, as long as is NOT like Meigs...

Meigs was closed last year:
Chicago Shuts Down Meigs Field; Critics Cry Foul
Runways Closed With No Notice, Airport Supporters Say
POSTED: 1:20 p.m. EST March 31, 2003
UPDATED: 2:23 p.m. EST March 31, 2003
CHICAGO -- City crews apparently began demolishing Meigs Field, Chicago's small lakefront airport, Sunday night. Workers used heavy earthmoving equipment to dig up portions of the runways, marking each one with an "X" and shutting down air traffic.
The road leading into Meigs was also closed.
Mayor Richard M. Daley said years ago that he wanted to close Meigs Field, but he told former Gov. George Ryan he would keep it open at least through 2006. That agreement was only on a handshake, however.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Rod Blagojevich said that his office was unaware of the city's plan, with the governor only learning of it from his staff Monday morning.
"The governor has supported shutting down Meigs Field for a long time," said Cheryl Jackson, director of communications with the governor's office. "It's the city's decision. The city owns the property," she added.
Jackson said that Gov. Blagojevich shares Daley's concern that Meigs Field presents a security concern for residents of the area, saying that's why the governor wants it shutdown.
Rachel Goodstein, spokeswoman of "Friends of Meigs," said her group was given no notice and, as far as she knew, no notice was given to aviation authorities.
"I think it's outrageous that it was done in the middle of the night without notice," Goodstein said. "There are something like 10 or 12 planes that are now stranded there."
Goodstein went on to argue that Meigs Field is an asset to the city and its security.
Mayor Daley recently won a fight with federal authorities to restrict air space over Chicago, as part of the city's security measures.
FAA Reaction
Federal Aviation Administration officials said they were concerned to learn Monday morning that Meigs Field was shut down.
The FAA said removing any centrally located airport, such as Meigs, puts added pressure on Chicago's O'Hare International and Midway airports.
FAA Great Lakes region spokesman Tony Molinaro said the city can close Meigs because it is an "unobligated airport." That means the city has paid back all the federal money that was given to it for the airport.

Yes Corn-shoot maybe I should remove myself from my life of girls, beer and adventure and spend more time with my head posed in front of a computer screen, waiting for someone to say something. This way I can make some lame ass comment to make myself feel like I am better than them before I retire to my life of Sears catalogues and hand cream.
Now go home.
Now go home.

Well shit boy, girls beer and adventure...get the keys to your mom's minivan and you got yourself a good weekend.
I would've loved to hear your flight plan to meigs field "Hi Joe Tool here, goin to Meigs" "That airfield's been closed for over a year, sir"
On the other hand, I do appreciate how removed you are from the aviation industry...that works great for the rest of us.

You know this may be a shot in the dark but between your attitude and your handle, I think I have you figured out. You're a stewardess... sorry, flight attendant who is taking it from a pilot aren't you. Don't be bitter at me for being able to fly to amazing places like Chicago and New York. If you shine your boyfriend up, I'm sure he'll give you the pleasure also. Just remember to bring some coffee and cookies otherwise you might have to spend the night in the plane. Now get to work, quit surfing the net or taking it in the Corn-shoot and get the Pilot his coffee.
