I found the hourly pay scale on Airline Pilot Central. For exemple, $60 EMD FO for the 3rd year, 65 hours monthly guarantee, 70 reserve guarantee. Is it $60*65 hours*12 month (yearly salary) or it can be more than 65 hours..
Also, what is a reserve....In other words, HOW DOES IT WORK ????
These are really stupid questions but i know nothing about airlines, always flew for corporate and i don't know if i should leave my complex corp. jet for the better life quality that AC guys have.....Got to decide, the train is there.....Is there a lot of opening in YUL?
I'm pretty sure nobody in the world, not even the person who devised the pay scales at AC, truly knows how it works. The best formula to calculate ballpark annual salary for AC is hourly rate x 1000 hrs/yr. That works out to 83 hrs a month on average.
An EMJ F/O making $65/hr will make $65,000.
An A340 captain making $214/hr will make $214,000.
Not including all the other benefits or additional pay but those are supposedly good ballpark figures.
An LOU is a Letter Of Understanding, an agreement that is voted upon, ratified, and put into effect as an understanding between the company and the union involved. As for JayDee's comments, pay no attention as he/she has no idea what they are talking about. It is true that the pay scale can be quite complex when it comes to interpretation. The easiest way to look at it is that your salary potential at AC throughout your career can range from $39K to $244K (this is inclusive of the recent 5.5% increase in salaries that is being implemented over the next 2 yrs) and is based on 82hrs a month, in many cases you fly more, + expenses/per diem's ($500-$1500 per month), + premiums for volunteering to work on days off, etc, etc.
Flat Salary is for 2 yrs, and Position Group (PG) positions include EMJ F/O, 767RP, and 330/340RP.
Was he laid off for a few yrs? Alot of guys hired around that time were affected by the layoffs. Did he take a leave of absence? Both of those situations would hold you back a few pay levels. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure some of the AC guys on here can come up with a better explanation.

No I can't. Maybe he/she could tell you because as I look through our pay structure here at AC, I see no way possible for a 320 pilot to make that low of a salary especially if they have been here since 2000.
It is not possible that someone who is at AC since 2000 makes 65K on the 320.Even if he decided to be on the EMJ with that date of hire he would make more than 65K.
JayDee wrote:If LOU 66 is accepted you will be on flat pay till 2009, and if thats not bad enough, you then likely get slotted into the PG for who knows how long.
Anybody applying to and accepting a position at AC right now is plane crazy.
Be a plumber, electrician, street cleaner, whatever, you will make twice as much as a future "B" scale pilot at AC.
100% Incorrect
Flat pay is only 2 years starting from your first line flight.
LOU 66 allows for pilots to bid up and out of the group without the 30 month freeze. You can still bid out of the PG if a non PG position is available and you can hold it with your seniority.
Do you really go from being a 5-year A320 FO (~90k) to a first year Capt making $37.3k?
Yes or no will suffice...I don't really need to no the complexities of the pay schedule. I just want to know if the pay cut is that drastic.
No. You would go to year 5 Captain salary and a significant pay raise depending on equipment.
So once you are with Air Canada for 12 years or more, you will get the max possible pay for the position you have, regardless of what you flew for those 12 years?
