Did You Put The Pogo In???
Not the most exciting picture ... but if you've heard this question before, followed by that flushed, embarrassed feeling go to your face, at least take solace in knowing it happens in Baghdad as well.

Ah shit. That sucks. Some guys never use the pogo which is questionable. I think a NW Ontario pilatus operator tilted a pilatus with a load of frozen turkeys a few years back. They certainly didn't write off the airframe though. What was the load on the hawker?bandit1 wrote:forgetting to put it in sucks too. Ask Wasaya, they dropped a 748 a few weeks ago and dinged the airframe pretty bad. Apparently it's scrap but I bet someone here can confirm that.
I dropped a Gulfstream 1 on it's tail once because there was never any provision for a pogo. Had someone from Gulfstream come up to inspect and he said it was good to go so TC issued a ferry permit to get home. Discouvered that the former that got bent also is the main spar for the fin so the little ding was not so little. Good news was a repair scheme was developed and repairs were made. Some Saskatchewan airline also dropped a G1 on it's tail but they simple flew it home for repairs c/w paying passengers. Got into deep doodoo over that one. There is a picture of the incident in the photo gallery. Leaving a pogo stick in is embarassing but I do not think all that dangrous. Anyone had a problem there? My only concern would be on rotation, the stick may hit the pavement, bounce up and hit the ventral fin or puncture the fuselage. Then the whole sordid mess will be discussed to death here on Avcanada.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

I remember one day working the ramp back inthe early 90's for a small southern Ontario 1900 pax operation. The pogo was very firmly pinned between the tail and the ground on the fully loaded machine. Pilot said he would start no. 2 engine after the pax were loaded so we could get it out. He did, we did, and they left on sched.

Sit, Hawker, Sit!

I can't believe that nobody got a picture of FFS sitting on its arse in Timmins with its nose in the air! How are we supposed to "learn from the mistakes of others" if we don't get to see it and laugh at them first?
The Newb loadmaster and his lo-time helper attempted to offload a ManLift (Scissorjack/elevating work platform) out the rear freight door without installing the pogo first. D'oh! Naturally, like any other abused beast of burden, the Hawker sat down to protest this treatment. She was fully repaired by the end of the next day, and back flying the next morning.
It'll take more than that to kill a Hawker.

Don't be concerned with what other people think, most of them don't do it very often anyway.
Working the ramp many years ago in YFB we were waiting the arrival of a couple of a/c, one of them was a DHC-6 coming from Lake Harbour. As we sat watching, it came taxiing in with the pogo still in place. Made it all the way without losing it or beating up the plane!
Pretty uneventful but the F/O took quite a ribbing over it.
