Hornet.....and....Superhornet?
Hey. Just curious as to the difference between the two? I'm guessing, but the hornet is the F-18 (CF-18 in canada) and the superhornet is F/A-18...not to sure about that. Visually, I noticed that the intake on the superhornet is square-ish, while the hornets intake is round-ish. Is the superhornet really that much better (and when were they made?)?

Super Hornets are bigger, heavier, higher pay-load. Pretty much an entirely different beast. They were bought by the USN to replace the F-14 as a stop-gap til the JSF is availible. At least thats what they say, although I don't see how the JSF has the range or the pay load of the superhornets let alone the bloody tomcat.
There was supposed to be huge savings by having something like 80% commonality with the originals, but as it turns out there only about 30 or less. A quick google should answer all you ever wanted to know. Try boeing's website.

Re: Hornet.....and....Superhornet?
All Hornets are officially F/A-18s (Fighter/Attack). In Canada they are officially known as CF-188s but this is usually simplified to CF-18. Same thing happened with the now retired Northrop (Canadair) CF-116 which was commonly referred to as the CF-5.Avro87 wrote:Hey. Just curious as to the difference between the two? Canada has the earliest version, the F-18A and B two seater. The F-18C and D models were improved versions that looked virtually identical externally. The F-18E and F "Super Hornet" is a rebuild of the original Hornet design with overall larger dimensions and a few other distinguishing features.
Here's a sitethat runs through the different models in better detail.

Naw, I picked this airplane shit up when I was a kid and it's all stuck in my head with lot of other useless junk.
This brings up another thing. I've worked in aviation for a lot of years now and I always laugh at the number of pilots who seem to either have an indifference to or a full on dislike for the subject of aviation. Man, I couldn't imagine being stuck in a line of work like that...it certainly isn't for the money.
