Stearman PT-17/PT-13
Wondering how many Stearman PT-17/PT-13 are flying up here? How often they get them up and flying? I am interested in hearing from anyone who has one. I just bought one and looking for information on flying them. I am rebuilding the one I have and redo the front cockpit as it was a hopper so I need those parts. Any leads for parts would would be appreciated, weather parts or a spare airframe and manuals.
Very few in Canada. Our climate is not conducive to open cockpit flying. There's a french canadian wingwalker - carol pilon? - that has a stearman, it's N-registered, I think (hint hint). Didn't she use to be jimmy franklin's girlfriend?
Anyways, try the USA - there are LOTS down there. Dunno where you are in Canada, but try the Geneseo Airshow, just south of Rochester, NY - I remember one year, there had to be 20 stearman there.
Google Stearman. I am sure that there is a website of enthusiasts, yearly fly-ins (down south), etc.
Of course OSH. Gotta go to OSH at some point in your life.
I might mention Greg in Ottawa, but ....

At the Aviation Hall of Fame at the Reynold's Museum in Westaskiwin AB. An operator there gives rides in a Waco and a Stearman. The grandson of the Founder of the museum. Byron Reynold's has an aviation restoration co. at the field that rebuilt these aircraft and many others.
If you are located in the West, might be a good stop for research. There are many older ex-sprayplane plots around that have countless hours on Stearmans. Sure you could find someone from those circles for flying them.

From the Transport database: there are a whopping five PT-17's in all of Canada:
Mark Common Name Model Owner name Owner Registered Since Serial Number
1 CF-KQB Boeing PT17 Reynolds, Byron 2006-01-12 75-255
2 C-GHOB Boeing PT17 Loten, Stuart 1993-04-21 75-1911
3 C-GJIK Boeing PT17 153 Mile Ranch Ltd 2001-10-09 75-4542
4 C-GVFB Boeing PT17 Thomas, Thomas 2000-09-12 75-1496
5 C-GXJJ Boeing PT17 Stillmeadows Enterprises Ltd 1986-04-09 75 6700
Only the first four have valid C of R's - the 5th has had it's C of R cancelled. I guess that makes it 4 stearman flying in Canada.
If there are really 3 (of the 4 Cdn) Stearman just at Burlington, you should tell them to contact Transport and correct their file information - it's all wrong.
Also, in the Transport database, I found zero PT-13's. I tried searching on Stearman and all I got was two 3/4 scale homebuilts.

Del...where abouts are you located and where did you find the "duster?" I can probably help out with parts, having recently been down that path. First thing to do is check out the forums on http://www.stearman.net.

The number of Stearman in Canada is lot more than listed before. The reason is that it was also know as a Model 75; NS-1; N2S; PT-13; PT-17: PT-18; PT-27 (Canadian version)
