Bad timming!!!!!

Post by paq »

I can't believe this is happening to me! I've got a course date at Jazz, and I've got to send all my papers in for Jan 2. That's great, but I missed a call yesterday from Air Canada main line for an interview. I can't return the call because the offices are closed until Jan 2.

Any idea on what to do? I really want to go to the main line! I'm sure this had to happend to some of you out there. Please let me know how you dealt with it.

Happend to a few in my Jazz class. Just know that once you send in your papers for Jazz, you have given up your chance at mainline.

You could tell Jazz to piss off, then get the PFO from AC 5 months later and be left with nothing. Quite the perdicament your in son. I'd say go with mainline if thats what your really want. Otherwise you won't be happy at little red, and god knows AC hardly takes from Jazz.

So why does everybody says "jazz is the entry level to AC"
is this again a false idea people have ?

It truly isn't the entry level to AC. CMA, Georgian and off the street are.

Working at Jazz is by no means a guarantee of being hired by mainline. Supposedly only about 30% of Jazz pilots interviewd are hired.

Having said that.....no one company supplies more pilots to AC than Jazz. Your "odds" are still best at Jazz......just not guaranteed.

AC from Jazz you better be patient, seniority is important, if it's AC you want, Try it now, you can allways call Jazz and tell them that something as come up and you can't go for the time beiing. From Jazz it will be at least 2 years before you get on with mainline and the doors may have closed then....I was interviewed in august, accepted early oct, and no course date or seniority @ mainline yet, I know at least 2 interviewed from the street after me, accepted after me and on course now, I'll be bellow them in seniority because I come from Jazz and limited Jazz spot on every couses, lots of Jazz guys waiting for a seniority number no new hire since aug 2005 has a seniority number at mainline.....if you know any, PM me...

Probably the best thing to do would be to try to push back your hire date at Jazz, but you could wait months finding out if you get on with mainline...I and most of the guys on my course found out within a couple of months, but there are stories of guys waiting much, much longer. Also, applicants from Jazz are subject to the same hiring process as those from off the street. In other words, if you are capable of getting hired from an AC interview now, you should also get hired in a year when your number comes up through the Jazz process (last I heard guys with less than a year in at Jazz are getting mainline interviews). If you go to Jazz and then get on with AC, you would give up about a years worth of sen # (about 300 are supposed to get hired this year). If you pass on (or delay) Jazz now and don't get with AC, then you have given up seniority at Jazz, and may or may not get on there, and have to look somewhere else.

Good luck

Jazz is by no means a way to AC. It's more like a 10% acceptance rate. If you don't believe me ask around the crew rooms and see how many have had interviews, and how many have gotten on. Just talk to the guys hired in 2005. Very few have recieved an offer and I would bet they would have if they had an interview off the street.

Yah... and ill bet that most of those guys from Jazz who didnt get on were because of no University or college.

I notice you changed the thread title, however it's still incorrect Mr. Timming. I really have nothing better to do right now. It's just driving me nuts.

Sucks about the situation you're in. Let us know how it turns out.

Those who did not get hired will "work to rule" for the forseeable future. Books offs, etc. Enjoy Air Canada, you deserve it

You can look at it in a positive or negative light.

Jazz pilots, while guaranteed an opportunity, seem to have a relatively low acceptance rate.

On any given new hire course at AC, the most pilots from any one airline are from Jazz.

Others are probably wondering, what did you decide to do?

If you can somehow make it to the mainline while bypassing Jazz, my advice is you will be far better off in the long term despite AC's low salary during your early years here.

Jazz salaries are extremely poor in both the short and long term. Upgrades are going to be a few years away, and unforunately that is the only way to push up your salary there.

Thanks for all your replys! I called AC and the lady could not do anything to speed the process up, and she told me that since I was starting at Jazz, that my name would be in the pool of those who wants to transfer to mainline.

Hopefully it's for the best.
