Well, I'm a warm-to-lukewarm supporter of Gun control, but FUK ME! Is that girl irritating!

While I definately agree that a woman should have a right do defend herself by any means neccesary, it saddens me to imagine our society one where every single person is packing heat. Some people are not mentaly balanced enough to be responsible carrying a gun in their purses.

Gun control is one of the largest money pits this country has. Think about this, if you're a criminal, are you going to go to the store and buy your gun, register it, then commit a crime? No, you're going to steal it from someone who's registered it, and they're going to be the ones getting charged for not properly storing it. Even if it was burried 10 feet under your barn in a steel safe.

I agree you should have some formal training to own a firearm, that only makes sense. But, the government has gone overboard on the whole deal. The Liberals should have called it "we don't want Canadians to have guns" program instead of "gun control". Remember this simple little fact: In the 1930's, a man named Hitler thought gun control was a great idea.

I agree with the rest of your post, but this arguement just pisses me off. Hitler also ordered the construction of the Autobahn. By your logic, this makes freeways bad. Hitler was an evil bastard, but that doesn't make every one of his policies or ideas automatically evil.

I'm sorry, by naming Hitler, I meant the whole Fascist Germany thing, which encompasses control upon people, and taking away their freedoms. I'm pro freeway.

It was a quote from office space. What howitzer said just reminded me of it.

If you need to wear that to feel safe, either you live in a place that sucks balls and therefore shouldn't feel so lucky, or you're a big pussy.

I'm not anti-guns by any means but please explain to me what the vast majority of people on this continent would encounter in their average day that could be so dangerous as to require the use of a weapon to protect themselves? If that person really does need a weapon to protect themselves that would most likely be an uncomfortable place to be in. If that person does not live in a place such as this however, and they are stilled so gripped by the fear of what someone or something might do to them that they have to carry a weapon, then they have issues, in my opinion.

I don't think most of us worry about day to day encounters in our wish to be able to defend ourselves, it's that "what if?" factor that creeps into our minds.

What if....the US is attacked much worse than 9/11, and their enemies know that we are a neutered society...unable to defend ourselves because our government protected us by taking away all our weapons deadlier than scissors and spent squat on defence...we'd make a great base for more attacks....since we are a "diverse" society the American's would not be able to tell Canadians/terrorists apart and would just attack and try to kill all.

Far fetched? Yes, but that could be the day we'll all say...."Thank heaven for the biker gangs and red necks in this country." They may be our Army Reserve.

Do you pay any kind of insurance premium? If so, why do you bother? By your argument, no one needs (eg car) insurance.

Car insurance is a legal requirement to drive. Insurance does not physically protect a person whatsoever. It is financial protection. So, no, that in no way parallels my argument, but thanks for coming out. A more appropriate parallel would be this: there's an outside chance that when I drive to work tomorrow morning I could get in a car accident but that doesn't mean I'm going to get an Abrams tank to "protect" myself from that possibility.

Does your car have an airbag, shimmydampener? No legal requirement for it, but it's something that can mitgate the physical harm that you are going to suffer in the unlikely event of a "what if".

Carrying a pistol is simply for a different "what if".

Shimmy,

Try working in LE for a few years and meeting the part of soceity that most of you only watch on TV at night within the walls of your secure house. I did and wont ever forget.

I own a business and at night on my way home it is a personal choice not to give away my hard earned dollar to a crack head. It's like rolling dice. In a lifetime you may never need protection. At least I have the option and the training and confidence to have a choice should the situation arrise.

What really gets me is somebody questioning why I need to carry.

Please watch this and ponder ones right to carry.

Nice 1911 - what is it? Brown, Wilson, Kimber? I particularly like stainless so I can use it on the boat!

The right to carry is a reasonable right.

I would far rather have a gun I don't need than need a gun I don't have.
