cargo dispatcher job
if you see an ad for a dispatcher job in the toronto area with car**jet consider the following:
you will be taking home about $500/week
you will be expected to do four 12 hour shifts a week from 7pm to 7 am. no extra compensation for night shift or extra hours.
the agreement says you'll be paid for 37.5 hours a week but they will not recognize any extra hours.
training by one their dispatchers is terrible. the man can't teach and ironically he is going to teachers college.
if you have any questions pm me

Re: Cargo Dispatcher Job
To clarify things a bit I was a dispatcher at this company and they treated me with nothing but respect. The schedule is great, the pay is good, and the training is excellent. I was trained by every one of the current dispatchers there and had no issues with any.
Yes the training pay is about half rate but that is also because up until you have completed the transport Canada required training there is no certainty you will be able to qualify as a type A dispatcher. Paying a full salary would be like paying a commercial pilot student a captain's pay because they may have the license one day. Extra hours are given as time in lieu, which if not used by the end of the year is paid out or carried over.
In fact, are you posting this because perhaps you weren't able to complete the requirements.
This company is in my opinion the perfect company to start into the dispatch field. The work is very interesting lots of multi tasking required, destinations all over Canada and some US destinations giving a new dispatcher a broad understanding of Canada wx, etc. The experience I gained at this company has made the transition into a full sched. pax service quite easy.
Posts like this burn bridges if you want to continue dispatching in Canada. You may have some issues. We all know how small a community this is and as a previous dispatcher at the aforementioned company I know that a few people with substantial pull in the Airline community have already read this posting and are not impressed.

Good for you to defend your old boss. I sense an implied threat of letting "people with pull" in the industry know about my post. I'm terrified, pleeeeease don't tell your friends about me pretty please. My whole life is aviation and all i ever dreamed of was to become a dispatcher.
But seriously, airlines come and go now a days in fact an arm of the cargo company in question just went bankrupt a couple of weeks ago and with the governments decision on trust funds this one is in a bit of difficulty also.
If you are now working for Porter we'll probably run into each other in the ferry. Talk to me then.

Starjet is a small, seperate part of Cargojet. It has no effect on the core business which is doing extremely well. Obviously Cargojet was not the place for you, but it is for alot of other individuals. Good luck in the future and I hope you find a company that suits you and your needs. I know, personally, I have found it at Cargojet.

Hey Andy, thanks for your well wishes. I'm already gainfully employed, must be all the good luck wishes from present and past cargojet employees.
sorry if i got you upset that time by not logging off from your computer and you having to call IT. all you had to do was to keep the on/off button pressed until the computer booted up again.
cheers

cargojet dispatch job
Will be a way better to spend that energy and learn how to read weather report and improve your radio skill. This job was maybe to much pressure for you.
Jonnyclass4, you are real gentlemen, hope to see you some time.

kudos for you for trying to get your message across in such poor English. at least you posted your comment (as opposed to others who read this, feel like they have something to say; but remain silent). i wonder if your spoken English is just as good. Your radio work must be excellent.

Ok... it looks like Quasimodo, er, uh, cargodispatcher - as he would like to be called - is a little bitter towards the fine folks at Cargojet.
Sooo, Quasidispatcher... why is it that you left your post at Cargojet? Was it the pay? Was it the hours? Was it the "poor" training?
OR... was it the fact that as charming as you might be, you just weren't smart enough, or organized enough to keep your job? Seriously, I think the people reading might find it interesting to know exactly which of your hardships it was that put you over the top. From my personal and completely unbiased opinion, I would like to say that if you are qualified for the job, you will probably enjoy it.
As for the training... try and teach a monkey to do algebra! It's not going to be easy considering it doesn't even know what a number is.
Thank you, and Good night

More of the same ...
From what I observed during the day was that the trainee was well liked by the staff.
It is normal human behaviour place the blame for a failure either on circumstances that were outside the person's control, or that were in that person's control. In this case he places blame outside his control, and in a nutshell complains it wasn't going to be such a great company to work for anyways.
IMHOP: He would have had a better chance for success if he had buckled down and studied more. As the time in training progressed, it would have made more sense to put more effort into his work than to surfing the net at work for consumer goods.
I'm not sure I would have posted his complaint about the cargo dispatcher job, but if he's operating with an external locus of responsibility - it makes perfect sense.
In other words I think it's a case of sour grapes is as sour grapes does....

aero-sig... and "Moderator" retort to ad hominem attacks. they obviously know who i am but i don't know who they might be. i do have an idea of who aero-sign... might be from his past posts, his syntax, grammar and content of his comments. I will not rply to personal attacks from their part on this forum. they know who i am so they can call me and we'll talk.
W8XC3XQN is right i did very limited web surfing looking for a Nikon d40 (excellent camera for the price) but my time surfing on the web (30 minutes tops) was minimal compared to others.
I learned a lot from my time at cargo jet. i had the opportunity to see upclose the workings of a 705 operation including the office politics. no regrets or sour grapes. I posted initially because i was let go after i had approached HR about attending work for 48 hours while being paid for 37.5. Also my shifts there where 90% "midnight shafts" which was also not in accordance with the agreement. granted i was being trained so i needed more exposure during the peak times but straight nigths were just killing me.
outside pressures also contributed to my not being 100% focused on the cargojet. i was negotiating a real estate deal which will allow me to retire in about 10 years.
i had plan b in place when the i was told that i will not be welcomed there anymore. i saw the "constructive dismissal" strategy being put into place after i talked to HR ie. i was being allowed to leave early day after day for a bout a week. dismissals usually happen on Thursdays so i was prepared and as such i booked a flight for later that evening. Circling over the city of Toronto on a clear night just makes you forget all of life's pressures for about an hour.
i welcome any comments, except personal attacks. for the latter you can call my cell or we can meet at timmy's.

Question for you...
How do you tell someone that they're stupid without it being viewed as a personal attack? This also comes after you berate one of your former co-workers for their training skills, which on all other accounts has not been an issue. Then you mocked another for english skills, to which I retort "those who live in glass houses should not throw stones". You did a very nice job of taking the high road after crawling out of the sewer. I love it... put people down, and then call it underhanded when it gets used against you. I will also commend you on your incredible foresight wherein you put together a "plan b" AFTER you were told you wouldn't be welcome. You should go work for Miss Cleo. Maybe you should take that finger of blame that you so readily point at your training, the hours, your house deal, etc. etc. and point it and the only constant in the equation - yourself. Many other people have gone through the training without FAIL. Do you honestly think you were let go because you questioned hours, or might it simply be because you couldn't hack it? If I wasn't bitter about something, I would probably let it be, not put up a post siting how horrible the organization was... get off your high horse and step down into the pile of shit it left behind, AKA your reality.
Now, when I say that I sincerely do NOT wish you the best in your future endeavours because I don't think you are a good person, that's a personal attack, everything else was just the unfortunate truth.
Cheers

Re: cargo dispatcher job
Sounds like a good place to work IMO. Very professional, friendly people. Does anyone know if they filled the two new dispatcher positions yet? I know this is an old thread but I would hate to make a new one.
cheers
