C-172 C-GZTI

Post by 5400AirportRdSouth »

Cool thread, I'll second that.

C172 C-GZTI out of CZBB

SnJ, we musta' flown the same AC flight, I got the cockpit-invite at 9 yrs old and turned the round knobby thing between the seats and she banked. Till the last few years, I always thought he pulled a fast one and had me dialing in the spare radio while he moved the yoke with his other hand or something... Someone showed me around a cockpit a year or two ago and the "round-knobby-thing" was pointed out and it did in fact bank the plane... ( I cant recall what the thing is/was, but it was legit apparently )

Solo: 150 C-GYCX
PPL: 150 C-GOMZ
CPL: 172 C-GVLD
Multi: PA44 C-GPFG
MIFR: PA44 C-GWGD

Not sure how I fit in a 150/152 dual but I sure remember it stall/spining really easily.

FYW went out west. YAN, I believe, is at Burlington or Hamilton. And don't forget FTY, it's at Barrie/Springwater.

For my first time touching the controls, it was a 172 on floats, C-FYKA (or QEH, one of the two for sure) in 1996 I think. Went up to Scotia Lake with my brother's friend to cut wood for a Sudbury Aviation fly-in camp. Actually got paid $9/hour I think.

As for my first flight ever, that would be Dec 3, 1989. Canadian Airlines 737-200, YYZ to St. Petersburg, Florida. I remember being asked if I wanted to go up to the cockpit to see the pilots, and I said no because I thought they'd be way too busy looking for the airport. Little did I know that they were probably both deep into a magazine or a "controlled rest period" :D .

I honestly can't remember that far back.

Born at CFB Cold Lake. Lot's of CF-104's about. They sounded really weird, like a horny moose call or something.

First flight was in the 1960's at CYGK, Kingston Flying Club. I remember FMP, a champ on skis.

Soloed on a Maule M4-210C. Still have it. Been flying it since 1971 - what is that, 36 years? Now teaching my oldest kid to fly on it. Good primary trainer, glad I never got rid of it.

Hey, I remember that buck-fifty! About 10 or 15 years ago, a music teacher (nice lady) bought it from a flight school. The guy that sold it to her told her that since it was an airplane, she had to run 100LL avgas, which was always gumming up the valve guides with lead deposits. I told her to run mogas in it, but no, she was going to go with what the guy running the flight school told her - he was an airline pilot or something.

So, she gets her licence, and makes the pilgramage to Oshkosh one summer. But in flight, a valve sticks, because she was listening to what an airline pilot who owned a flight school told her, and she landed during a SWAT team live firing exercise, on the firing range.

I wish I was making this up.

Well, she decided maybe that heading across Lake Michigan with a sticking valve wasn't the brightest idea, so she turns around and heads home.

But, she never learned to use the LORAN in the buck-fifty (anyone here know what a LORAN is?) and she kinda got lost in the haze around Toronto, and got talking to someone at Brampton on the UNICOM, who talked her down into a landing on runway 33.

Except, it wasn't runway 33 at Brampton, it was a little wider and longer, and it was under construction - she had accidentally landed at Pearson, without talking to a soul.

I can't remember the name of the flight school that trained her - I think it was the same one that sold her the buck-fifty?

As I recall, that buck-fifty made me a bit nervous - it had bubbling up under the paint around the seams, like an old rusty car. Musta spent some time around some salt.

no, FLU was in YOW right up until it went to Rhode Island, sorry! I have photos of it's flight down to the U.S.A., a fire fighter bought it, and loves it! has had no worries at all, it was pristine plane (even better now he painted it up) with full S/G/D and new radios. It came from Flin Flon before that and was babied by that owner - barely a chip in the original (albeit tres 1970's) paint.

oh and it seems folks are putting in 1st flight as pax, too... i was wee, perhaps babe in arms... i'm gonna say a DC-9, on to an ole 747, cus i remember stairs and thought that was odd on a plane...but i was tiny...oh and if you can blame all of your troubles on your original FTU, well, that lady may have been nice, but if you are unable to take care of your own AC and not tell the difference between YYZ and CNC3, then... well.. .

LORAN (Long Range Air Navigation) Has a master station and secondary stations, the master station send out a omnidirectional signal and the secondary send out unique signals. the receiver measures the time lapse and triangulates your position ;)

I see some familiar registrations, WHE, isn't that out at Namao Flying Club at ZVL? She's a nice C-150.

I too soloed in C-GCLN, a SGS 2-33A out of New Brunswick, back in 1994. Someone cartwheeled her in a downwind landing a few years back, I guess they fixed her, but I wonder if she still spins the best of the Atlantic Fleet?

My first flight I remember was in an open cockpit Pietenpol in Havelock NB. My next powered flight was in Piper Tomahawk PA38-112 C-GRVA, but later soloed in C-GBIC out at Moncton in 1995.

Commercially, in would have been 1995, I flew in an AC BAe 146 from Moncton to Montreal and Ottawa.

Another one here too!

1999, First Solo in GSMR, my favourite Katana (can't remember why the hell it was my favourite, but whatever.)
Loved flying out of Calgary - I landed there just before this past xmas for the first time since I got my PPL back in '99, but didn't have time to swing by the school and see if she was still there...

My "Second First Solo" - deemed such because it left me with the same feelings as my First Solo - was in Chipmunk FRRI. Love that little airplane...
