Why is it when anyone asks a valid question all that comes up on this site is jokes? Those of you who are AC employees, please try to remember when you WANTED to work for the company, and were asking for help..Foxe wrote:Hi guys, I know a bunch of guys have been turned down by mainline but for the ones who succeed, what do you think AC is looking for ? I don't think that any of the replies were actually from mainline employees. This topic has been answered in many other threads so the insights of others can be found with the search function.tbone wrote:Why is it when anyone asks a valid question all that comes up on this site is jokes? My personal take is that the interviewers are looking for the same thing that any employer looks for. Someone modest enough to realize that this is an opportunity to continue the learning process in aviation. Someone with enough experience (this definition is open to debate) that can be valuable during irregular operations. Someone intelligent enough to minimize what the company has to spend on training to get them to standard. Someone that the other employees will enjoying sharing their work time with, be it a 1 day turn or a 7 day overseas pairing. Someone who wants to be at Air Canada. Everything else is up to interpretation and debate.

Over the past year and a half the style of the interview has changed. All the successful candidates in my PIT course were interviewed by management pilots. I have heard that they have transitioned to using HR personal to document the candidates response. If this is still the inteviewing style it is a little dissappointing as much is lost when merely recording the text of an inteview. The delievery, enthusiasm and the opportunity to develop a connection with the interviewer is lost when it is merely a robot taking notes. I sincerely hope that candidates are given the opportunity to interview with management who ultimately make the decision.
Can anyone else confirm that they were interviewed like this recently?

I did my interview back in March of last year. I had a 767 F/O, a lady from HR and a retired captain (I believe he was retired). The Captain was actually ON the hiring board which I was told was a rarity. He and I hit it off really well, (both flew in the same area's just quite a few yrs apart) I truly think thats what made the difference for me since I don't think I'm any more qualified for the job than some of the guys that were PFO'd

No offence, but this is not a professional forum. This is a "Public Forum"
Big difference. That is most likely the reason...(Allthough, you still see shite that makes you wonder, elsewhere). There is still more good stuff here than bad. Remember the the real slagging that went on in the infancy of internet and forums? We sure have come a long way...
...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.
