Huh? Hawker HS-125 jets as cargo aircraft? Am I missing something here? Does anyone else operate this type in a freight operation?

Morningstar

Morningstar currently runs a corporate 604 which is completely seperate from the cargo division. Its owned by four different groups out of Edmonton. I'm surprised its taken this long to get another aircraft considering how much the 604 flies.

They got rid of a Hawker and upgraded the CL600 to a CL604.

Now more Hawkers? 4 of them can't be for personal use. Charter maybe?

Does anyone know anything more about this. This topic sounds like bull shat, this grape vine rumor has nothing to back it up at all. Anyone from morningstar that can back any of this up???????

Pulling out of XD and going where?
4 brand new aircraft? are you sure?
how do you know?
4 brand new aircraft by the spring? doesn't sound right?

judging from the info in this topic we will see it drift into the depths of the avcanada general forum, and never hear of it again. LOL

They are starting a Canadian fractional ownership operation with four Hawkers. The aircraft have been paid for. Two are on the way now and two more to follow. This does not involve their Fedex cargo operation.

for YYC, Morningstar is getting 4 machines, 2 in the spring 2 in the fall. Should be fun times. As far as where they will all be based I am not 100% on that, only YXD so far.

This has been in the works for sometime,MAL has apparently already selected a base for the aircraft but is being tight lipped about it for now. There is also another company from Edmonton that has ordered a challenger 300 and a Lear 45 for fractional work.A group of vancouverites is also a planning a fractional company although what equipment will be used has still not been decided.

That's a lot of iron for a city where there is currently no business for them.

With the economy in Alberta the way it is I would imagine the demand is there. No one is gonna go out and buy airplanes unless they have commitments from customers.YYC has been the centre of bizjet activity, but YEG,YXD are likely to become busier with this activity aswell.YVR is a good market aswell, although most clients currently seem to use U.S. aircraft such as Netjets.

But where are these customers today? Customers don't just make the leap from walking everywhere to owning a Hawker 1000. They would "upgrade" from Citations or Lears or even older Hawkers to a Hawker 1000. And I don't see many citations or lears in Edmonton. So where are these people today who need such heavy iron tomorrow?

Don't get me wrong. Morningstar's a good company. Solid background and impeckable reputation. But 4 aircraft? That's just not logical. Orders written. Deals signed. Cheques written. Delivery dates set. And all four aircraft WILL be here by the end of the year? I don't think so.

It's a healthy dream. And one aircraft, maybe two will show up. They'll struggle greatly to make the second one profitable. They'll never see the third and fourth.

Unless... And I admit... I assumed they'd be based in Edmonton. Perhaps not. Morningstar is established in Canada from coast to coast. When you look at it that way, they could handle all four aircraft easilly.
