Never have I been happier to have been WRONG!!!! The hiring spree continues! And it's great. I have never seen it like this, and I'm way older than you. Let the games continue! Do not take out bank loans! You don't have to. Sign bonds, ONLY if it's somewhere you really want to be. If you have 500 hours, roll around pissing yourself at dock/ramp offers. It's a brave new world....time for the operators to "get off their wallets"!! Captains(low time captains) are being hired directly into left seats with operators who never did that before? You are in the "drivers' seat", finally, it's a pilot's market. Use it wisely!

Yup the hiring is still going on like crazy, how much longer will it last? Well I think it will stay hot like this for a few more years to come. Company's cannot hang on to captains, people are getting scooped up by regionals, then by the majors.
Lower time people are making to captian way ahead of "schedule". So the next gap will be guys with 500 hours to go as co-pilots. This time last year what was the average 12,500 captain walking around with? 3000-4000 hours? And now this year, 2000 hours? The industry is moving and it is great to see, hopefully it can last quite a while longer.
Instructors were waiting for the 1000 hour mark before they started shopping around for a cojo position, now i'd be looking after 500 hours. Instructor turn over will become really high, again unless the owners get off the wallets and starting paying above poverty for your services. It is becoming a pilots market out there, what a great time to be getting into this!

Apply, apply, apply!! All the old 'minimums' are out the door right now. Doc is right, I've never seen it go on so long either, so tell the operators to pound sand with their ramp jobs - like I said, if a ramp job does not come with an active check-out, flying empty legs and freight, leave.
In fact, today, after work when that 'Jo is sitting there, buttonhole the CP and get him to do circuits with you. If he refuses, you're in the wrong job.
In Vancouver, ALL the service jobs are going begging. If you have to work the ramp, make sure you are getting paid what you are worth. You should be getting in the high teens/hr now as you are more skilled than a lunch-bucket who has no training, or go some where that you will get paid.

Sorry....that DID come out a little wrong!
I think most are looking. If you have the numbers, they'll talk to you. 500 hours isn't "low" time these days. I don't want to name companies, but some are looking. I'd rather hire a guy with 500 hours on my doorstep, than wait for a guy with 1500 hours to "get back to me"?? It's a right seat position, afterall, how many hours do you need? Go for it.
