I have been off-line for a while but was wondering if anyone has any comments on the VIH Sale?

Hey FA,

The buzz I've heard(not too much of it actually) is that people are a bit worried that with such a large fleet now, they'll be forcing rates/pay down. I'm not so sure, but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

With the large outfits like CHL, there are certainly some advantages, but also a number of disadvantages. I'll be interested to see what things look like in about 6 months.

Hi STL, A year ago I heard rumors that VIH was sliding out of the light market and moving more towards the medium-heavy side of the industry. West Coast Oil perhaps? If this was true it would open alot of doors for smaller operators. But with the addition of the Grate Slave resources I am not sure what is brewing.

Correct me if I am wrong..but VIH is not really in the drivers seat.
If I understand correctly Discovery Air bought GS and DA is now buying VIH, so, what VIH and or GS want is not really the issue.

DA will decide the outcome of the industry.

DA has bought up several companies in our area and they're corporate strategy is to leave everything in place operationaly, they don't change the name or staffing etc . They operate under an umbrella of companies that trade resources back and fourth . In fact they invested heavily in expansion and modernization at Hicks and Lawrence in Dryden. It would appear that the companies are left to function on they're own . Fiscally they report to DA 's board of directors . They say they only purchase profitably companies that can operate on they're own.

I guess we will see . Thats what canadian said when they bought up half the universe in the late 80s early 90s

I hope DA does what you say, it could be a good thing for the industry.

Any initiative that helps to modernize the nationwide fleet is ok by me. We're long overdue.

See how it plays out I guess. Be nice if they started pushing Charter rates up..... Oh, sorry just woke up...!

No the VIH/Discovery Air deal has been dead for a long time now. But VIH has been quite busy as of late buying new aircraft. Bell 407's, AW139's, EC145's, S92's, AS350B3's, and have bought the first EC135 in Canada. As well bought 3 S61's last year.
