When did CMA operate into YCD? Pretty unprofessional to bash your co-workers to a stranger.in CYCD i was talking to one of their Captains who was freaking at the level of pilot he was being given to fly with
They shoulda chose Seneca I guess?CMA had a only hiring FO's policy straight out of some school in Castlegar
The hiring policy that was in place before their current one was 500TT 250PIC IATRA for cojo... How long ago were they hiring 250 hr guys? Other than for the ramp!I guess they must learned the hard way have changing the 200 hours hiring policy if you are saying that they now want 1000 hours
I dunno - you seem pretty jaded and I call BS on most of your post.
I will agree with you though - the pay is poor...
And anyone interviewing anywhere ought to bring up wage, it just shows you lack self worth if you don't.
note-edited because I forgot I was going to try to be more positive... sorry.

altiplano How long ago did they have that 500tt mins?
.../me am half expecting them & a few others to soon drop their mins (look'n at the way the industry is going)
Its interesting when you see people advertizing for jobs flying small twins with Mins higher then the Major airlines....not that CMA has small twins...or that the majors accualy are highering people with hours even close to those mins..........except maybe Jazz

Those were the published minimums posted on their website before they put what is on now. I'd say less than a year ago they had the 500hr thing up... And going back for at least a 3-4 years or more... But I could be a bit off on that...Justwannafly wrote:altiplano How long ago did they have that 500tt mins?
Anyway - yeah - you'd expect mins to come down the way things are going but I still think 1000 hrs is reasonable for 1900 cojo... especially since they need someone upgradable in the not too distant future as guys move up...

A few moons ago I worked the ramp and got to know some CMA pilots. At that time I heard the youngest FO was 19 and the youngest Capt was 23. No idea how it was flying with guys so inexperienced, but it sure made me wonder what the hell I was doing on the ramp.
"Yeah. There is a problem. You...because you're dangerous. You're dangerous and foolish - and that makes you dangerous! Now, let's cut the...crap. We've got a plane to fly. Let's try to be on time, okay?"

I worked at CMA for 3 years and while I don't particularly have an interest in sticking up for the ownership per se, I will say that the pilots there are just friggin normal guys and girls. Some good pilots, some bad pilots.
ps. the hat hasn't been part of the uniform for about 2 years...get over it!
pps. airline hat or dorky navy blue jumpsuit with bars on the outside, you don't look like a fighter pilot-- get over it!

I worked at CMA from September 97 till Sept 99 as a Captain. I worked with those 300 hour pilots and I have to say they were for the most part competent pilots who just needed proper guidance and leadership. Apparently a few Captains of that era were unable to provide neither. It wasn't the inexperienced F/o's that were the problem there it was a few of the "experienced" Captains who held the highest risk to the operation. Fortunately, those quacks are still operating at that industry level while those "pain-in-the-ass" F/o's are now at AC or WJA. HMMM, I wonder where that Captain ended up?

Well, that's probably because it takes a little more experience and talent to operate a transport category aircraft (ie 1900) into unimproved airstrips, than it does to operate a Dash or CRJ into a 10000 foot runway....Justwannafly wrote:Its interesting when you see people advertizing for jobs flying small twins with Mins higher then the Major airlines....not that CMA has small twins...or that the majors accualy are highering people with hours even close to those mins..........except maybe Jazz

I've been at CMA for a while now. I can honestly say that the 250 hour pilots that we have flying with us are for the most part alot easier to fly with than say an effo with 2 years and ready for that upgrade and also ready to show you how ammmazzing they are and how ammmazzing you aren't. I also think that CMA does offer people things that they don't get elswhere at this level. SCHEDULE. The last 2 years have been hard days but still we have a schedule. CMA says right from date of hire this is a stepping stone company they are expecting you to leave to one of the majors within 2-3 years so of course the pay sucks. If they wanted us to stay then the pay would be higher. CMA has lost over 60 pilots to the majors in the last 18 months. Thats alot of training my friend and BTW we are hiring.

btw they hire 1000tt min for F/Os (& the occasional 2-3 year rampy)
so your F/O won't be a complete new pilot
And exactly what kind of 1000hr pilot is going to take $22,000/yr to sit right seat??? From what I hear, the heyday of CMA (late 90's) is well and truly over, sounds like a shit show these days.

Hey DJ, love the Brett Hull analogy; it's perfect.
I don't think anyone gets a job at CMA without knowing what they're getting themselves into (or anyone who reads the posts on AVCANADA anyway). You go there, do the best job you can, then hopefully move on to the majors. Pretty simple.
